there's only a few cars out there that i think look great in yellow (one of my fav colours)...this is one of them...while i would get the regular model (not convertible), i've always loved 911s, and the upcoming one looks to be even better...not sure how they do it, but it seems like every iteration is just a bit better than the one it replaces, and they're all amazing.

Agree. Checked out the new 911 at the autoshow and wow, stunning car. And it keeps getting better with every year. I think Porsche has the right balance of moving forward without loosing its heritage.
I love it when a plan comes together.

I'm sure this is all that and a bag of chips, but eye watering prices (not mentioned in the article?) have moved them well into the irrelevant category for me.

???

they've never been cheap...they've always been pretty expensive (but worth it, IMO).

Prices went nuts starting in the 1980s and really ramping up from the 2000's on. Until then a 911 would have been somewhere between a Buick and Cadillac in price.

I've never been a fan of the Cabriolet 911 - looks a little frumpy with the top down. I am sure the coupe looks fantastic.

A 1980 911 made ~180 hp. If you're looking for a current light weight car that makes 180 hp and doesn't break the bank, well you know the answer.

Not sure if a 911 was ever priced between a Buick and a Cadillac  :-\

I've been watching used prices on 911's closely, and the air cooled market has seemed to have plateaued a bit, but low mileage rare ones are still commanding high dollars. Cars that were the sweet spot 5yrs ago, like the 964's are now commanding strong dollars. The 996's have seemed to have bottomed out and are holding steady, and 996 Turbo's are starting to rise. I think the best deal out there is either the 996 Turbo, but if you can't stand the looks (like me), then the 997 Turbo is a pretty smoking deal right now considering it's performance chops!! The entry price of a new 911 sure makes the old ones seem like a bargain still though!

The only number I remember specifically was 1970 when the Buick Electra 225 had almost an identical MSRP as a 911 (Targa IIRC). It was the equivalent of $35k in 2015 dollars.

At a time when V8 Camaros and Mustangs were sitting at ~140hp, 180hp wasn't bad, especially when considering the weight difference.

Usually not a fan of cars with a chunk of ill fitting canvas for roofs, but damn does this thing look sweet. Good work Porsche, you still captivate me.

I meant you can get a Miata for ~$30,000 if looking for a light weight car that handles well.

Yeah. With the new living arrangement, I'm really tempted to get something fun for a change. A new car too.  ;D

The 911 was a serious Corvette competitor back then.  My Dad was shopping the 911 and some others back in the late 60s, and they weren't cheap, but not rich-people-only by any means.  He settled on a big V-8 Camaro for the real back seat.

When Yuppies became a thing, the 911 became a status symbol, not a weird German sports car.  Porsche (and rightly no from a business standpoint) jacked the prices through the roof and literally became the world's most profitable car company overnight.

I remember this TV ad as a young kid sitting on the living room floor thinking - Porsche eh...what a weird little car.

Do you realize that in about 30 (updated as requested) years, we'll have millions of old ladies running around with tattoos?
