I've always wanted something like this for a truck. Best of both worlds, not underneath, no lost room in the bed

Lighten up Francis.....

Meh, I'll still take it underneath.  The option above extends the length of the truck, which I wouldn't want.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Best solution:

Not taking up space in the bed. Don't need to unload the bed to get to it. Easy to access and it's not subject to the crapstorm underneath the chassis.

that is brilliant...funny how old that idea was and how it isn't used anymore...maybe issues with today's aerodynamics/style/design trends?

That will work beautifully.

But it does take up bed space, unless you have a stepside, which takes up bed space.

I'm not willing to compromise any bed space, as you probably noticed.   ;D

Anyone else remember cars that had the spare in the engine bay?

Find an old Subaru.

Kinda hard when most new cars are running 17" wheels.

Just put it on the roof.  Probably add another 0.5L/100km in consumption on the highway though.

Aerowise that truck is the shape a brick would like to be.   I wonder what its Cd is?  Probably no one at GM ever knew or cares.

I think that old truck looks far better than anything sold today. Gorgeous.

brother just had to replace the whole apparatus for his spare tire on his Xterra. Rusted to nothing and tire was seized in there and needed to be torched out.

Was a few hundred to put on a new one, at my cost. Yikes.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

I would have just left it.  On trips that were more than 50km just throw itin the back, or strap it to the roof.  Thats just me.  Never needed a spare.  But it's only been 20 years.

no good for him = for when he goes ice fishing and camping, the entire back is full along with a roof box. Needs it underneath.

The one in NB was a truck, so I’m assuming F150.
