This is a good effort by Hyundai. Might as well make midsizes sedans interesting as they lose relevance.

Is GDI gone? I wonder if we will get the same tiny 2.0L?

Those DRLs tho...  :o

Not sure how I feel about the chrome strip leading to those DRLs, will have to see in person or in HD. The car seems luxurious inside though, even gets a power shade

you can't really go by other markets...many cars use different powertrains depending on where they are sold.

True, but the latest Elantra here (or is it a Kia) lost GDI as well, so it's possible the automaker wants to clean up their act, that is to get rid of diesel-like particulate emissions.

i don't think it has much to do with that...they are now using atkinson cycle engines, which are a bit down on power but offer better fuel economy...they are simply reacting to consumer demand...most journalists want "more power"... most consumers want "better fuel economy"...since journalists don't buy the cars, consumer demand wins...hence CUV.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

Agreed.  I think the DRL effect will be cool, but that chrome strip - I dunno.

I think it is one gorgeous car, both front AND back.  The Sonata has come a long way since its humble beginnings.

Digital gauge cluster with integrated blind spot cameras is very cool. And so are the DRLs. Interested to hear more about the improved driving dynamics.

I just prefer the fluidic design, Then they went a bit bland, Now it's Fugly.

This will date quick and will look odd in a few years.

This model was more stylish. Medico reliability though and bland to drive. But look nice, and I think it has age really well. Same with Sonata. It look really nice. Now I'm not sure...

The one and only thing we agree on is the current restyle of the Elantra, mostly the lower front sides but also the headlight area, looks cheap. Big regression from my car overall, IMHO.

To me, it looks the car that came before the update. not the other way round.  :)

While we're quite randomly slagging other Hyundai products, I thought I'd serve this up - "fastback" version of the i30N hatchback.  I kind of dig its aesthetic quirkiness and really dig its sporting capabilities.  And I definitely think Hyundai is barking mad for not offering this N-product and the hatchback as well in North America.  I suspect both would have much more broad appeal than the Veloster.

Oh - and the more I see of Sonata videos, the more I think Ontariodriver needs an eye exam.  :rofl2:  Or a troll-ectomy.

I don't necessarily disagree with OntarioDriver.

It has a little of the Bangle Era BMW's from the front, which wasn't a great look.  I think it's because the front is droopy.

Anyone else noticed how the tacho is now going counterclockwise, just like the new 3-series. Sorry if it was already mentioned.
I really like the interior of this thing.

Wow Hyundai has really packed an incredible amount of stuff into this car.  Some features that were only available on cars like the A7, A8 etc are now available in a Sonata  :o

Good work, Hyundai!  And that car looks amazing in red from the front!
