2020 Hyundai Sonata - easy on the eyes!
« on: March 06, 2019, 01:37:21 pm »
Go ahead - call me a slack-jawed fanboy.  :-[  You won't be completely wrong.  ;D But I think this is a pretty awesome job of injecting some premium-looking exterior styling for the mainstream midsize segment.  :o  In fact, I'd put it right at the top of the class.  I'm seeing a lot of A7 influence - and I think that's a very good thing.

The rear end is regrettable...looks a bit like that Lincoln.

Rest looks nice though.

Agree there is something wrong with the backend. The trunk fascia Looks like it's pulled in too tight and is too small for the size of the car.  Other than that....nice!

They should have finished the back like those Sportback (a5, accord ish).  I like it. I also saw a new rental Elantra yesterday.  Hyundai are some of the best looking cars IMO which is weird to say

I like that the article included pics of every generation.  The 2006-10 Sonata is still the best looking of the bunch.   ;D

It's nice to be sure..

But I went from "wow, beautiful" from picture 1 to "meh" when I saw picture 2. Front end looks like lots of thought and cohesive...and rear was designed by someone else.

Overall, not too shabby.

Should sell in bucket loads though!

It looks very sharp and grown up. But to seriously consider it as a replacement I'd need a small NA V6 under the hood. The 3.3L one (from Fe XL) would do just fine  ;)

Yep. I'm seeing Aston in the front, LS500 in the side profile and the aforementioned Lincoln at the back  ;D

Oh hell yes.  Don't see it happening, though.  It would be a pleasant surprise if it did.

Ah - photo didn't load first time - and ya, no.  I mean anyone who doesn't like the back end, or the front end or anything in between - no argument.  We like what we like.  But other than a solid tail light strip, I'm not seeing much of a resemblance to that Lincoln at all.  The Lincoln has a pronounced and distinctive trapezoidal bangle-butt that the Sonata does not.

Well to be fair, I'm not the only one.

It immediately reminded of that car...while obviously not being identical.

Well to be fair, I'm not the only one who sees Audi A7.

It immediately reminded me of that car.

https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a26692381/2020-hyundai-sonata-photos-info/

"For the first time since the watershed sixth-generation Sonata debuted to much acclaim—including a Car and Driver 10Best award—Hyundai's mid-size sedan is once again banking on style as its key asset. The first photos of the new 2020 Sonata are here, and it's a visual knockout inside and out, with a vastly different silhouette, fascinating design details, and what looks to be a far more sumptuous interior. Could it be the new aesthetic leader of the mid-size sedan segment?

In profile, the most noticeable change is to the new Sonata's greenhouse, which tapers nicely at the C-pillar, sloping down to a short trunklid to give it an almost Audi A7–like shape. It is still a sedan with a conventional trunk however, and the rear end is distinctive with C-shaped taillights that have a wraparound light bar bisecting the trunklid. The curvy hexagonal grille and smoothly shaped headlights up front are meant to fall in line with the new design language established with the Le Fil Rouge concept car shown last year."

Like I said - you may think its totally 'meh', or you may think it looks like a Pontiac Aztec - and that's all fine.  You are entitled to your view.  I disagree.
