Suggestion for coupes 30k
« on: March 03, 2019, 09:22:34 am »
Hello,
I've started to research about coupes, finally can afford myself one, on the hand I have few options, would be happy to hear your opinion.
I never had a coupe(or any sport car) so any opinion is very important for me.
The price range around 30k.
the coupes that I am looking now are:
Mercedes C300- 2015-16
Bmw 4 series 435i - 2015-16
Cadillac ATS coupe - 2015-16

Will be happy to hear if you have any experience with those cars, any other suggestion will be consider, maybe Infinity q60, lexus rc etc

All nice cars, the 435i and ATS 2.0T can be had with a six-speed manual. In fact, the 435i can be had with xDrive AWD and a manual at the same time, which is a rarity. The ATS' "CUE" infotainment system was updated later, for 2017 or so. Before that, I'd avoid it.

With 2015-2016 C 300 Coupes you're looking at the previous generation model (C204). I don't think the C-Class Coupe got updated to the C205 until model year 2017. The previous generation car is pretty dated and honestly, not that nice to drive. It's quick in a straight line but isn't particularly handsome, the interior feels more dated than the 435i and the ATS, and it's not cheap to maintain.

Have you looked at Audi A5s? They drive well, but it's worth watching out for the oil consumption issues of that 2.0T.

VQ oil consumption? I can't remember if it was an issue on the 3.7, but the G35's 3.5L was definitely brutal in this regard.

What about a Mustang or Camaro? I think you can find one of those for ~30k in the years you mentioned.

Thank you guys, little bit more information for my requires, it has to be AWD, it will be daily car so it have to be comfortable, 370z seems to me too sporty.
About the American muscle cars(camaro, mustang, challenger) from my research it's little bit lower level from what I mentioned(BMW, Cadillac, Mercedes)
Thank you for Audi advice, I will check it also.
The Cadillac for me ahead for now, I really afraid of German maintenance cost(should I?)

I wouldn't count on Cadillac being all that good either when it comes to reliability/frequency of repairs. I ditched a 4 year old Caddy in 2011 because the warranty was up and it was needing constant and seemingly endless repairs.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

BTW, My G does not use ANY oil between changes. Maybe this was a G35 issue? No idea.

Hmmm...yeah, I guess not.
I hear those new TT 3.0 Infiniti Q60's can make massive amounts of power with a few easy bolt ons. Like +150WHP!

Nope. And neither are the German coupes you mentioned. I own a VW Golf but I don't think I'll be keeping it long after the warranty runs out. I would strongly recommend a Toyota 86/Subaru BRZ if you're looking for a coupe for around $30k. Unfortunately for you though, they don't come with AWD. The sad reality is, there just aren't many affordable, AWD, coupes out there. My friend had a 2014 A4 coupe and the infotainment module stopped working. Audi was asking $8000 to replace the module. So he just got rid of it and got a Lexus IS300. The best approach for you would be to either use the 30k on a downpayment on a new car (if you really want a German AWD coupe) or just start looking at different body styles.

Oh and I just remembered that Dodge offers the Challenger as an AWD in its GT trim.

guess it is yet another thread to get us talking, but these Chinese bots are getting tiresome

I honestly do not know what the agenda could be. "Get car guys arguing" maybe?
