while it looks neat, the steering wheel is on the wrong side and if it ever needs anything repair wise (they weren't known to be that great), good luck getting anything for this car since it was never sold here.

JDM parts are no longer that big of an issue. As for the steering wheel on the wrong side, good enough for a weekend car.

my boss was looking to import a Ford Ka, but the high cost of shipping it here, assorted taxes and fees, and complete PITA for getting anything if it ever needed anything ended that idea...regarding the steering wheel, it may not seem like a big deal, until you are in a busy intersection waiting to turn left...it is sometimes hard enough to see around the line of cars in front waiting to turn left...our roads and intersections are designed based on how our cars are.

With ~300hp and awd, you can make it through traffic quick enough that you do not need to see that much  ;D As for parts, I know a few buddies with JDM stuff and they have very few issues with getting anything. Of course big stuff like bumpers and doors is expensive because shipping, but its not that bad.

Jesus, it's a beautiful car, the likes of which was never available here, and you're shitting all over it because it's RHD?

Bloody Hell, not much of an enthusiast, are you?

One of our IT guys has a first gen JDM Forester STI.

Yes, a RHD, 1st gen (the cool boxy kind) Forester with that era's STI hardware underneath it: the big 2.5 turbo, the ability to shift torque front/rear, etc.

I saw it when he stopped by a few weeks ago, gave him Kudos, and talked cars with him for a few minutes.  Him driving a Kia would never have gotten me talking to him, but his Forester STI is a great conversation starter for any car guy.

I was looking at those Forresters, about $6k shipped to your city, not bad for an actually entertaining CUV.

it's a nice looking car, i said that, but i'm also a realist...Mits' aren't that great in terms of reliability, especially one that's 22 years old, was never sold here, and isn't some relatively simple vehicle (AWD, RHD, twin turbo V6)...it's nice to look at a photo of it, but i wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole...keep in mind, it likely cost about $3k to get that car here, so they likely paid fairly little for the car if they are selling it for $7500...the likelihood of getting into an accident probably doubles with that thing...i'd imagine it would also be expensive to insure.

I am no JDM fan, but damn this is cool.

Would rock this.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

If you're going to suffer a RHD vehicle, make it something interesting that wasn't sold here.  A standard Impreza or 240SX?  WTF?  This thing makes some sense because it's very cool and unique.

My Dad had an Eagle 2000 GTX.  I loved that car.  Felt more Euro than Japanese.  This is based on its grandson.  I want one.

i remember the Eagle Talon back in the day...the first gen units were everywhere (89-94)...honestly, by 2000, i don't think any survived...they were quite popular for a few years, but they certainly didn't last very long...it's too bad, they looked awesome, went like stink and certainly had some street cred (in TSi AWD trim), but they didn't seem very well put together or durable for the long term...a coworker at the time had one that was only about 5 years old and as awesome it was, it was a POS.

My bro in law has a Mitsu Gallant VR4 (a 4 door Talon basically) the 4 stands for 4 wheel drive, 4 wheel steering, 4 cyl turbo. Really neat car and very low production numbers. It sits because its perpetually broken.

There are a few young guys in Beaumont in RHD Imprezas/Foresters/Civics....I don't get why you would go through the hassle. For a cherry, rust free body do swap over to left hand drive, definitely.

Oh, if its some forbidden fruit like a GT-R or a Hilux or something, sure....but a Subaru, Civic or 240SX, I think I'm too old.
