Lots of people with 45 series tires and lower are going to discover the downside of low profiles.  Just like every winter.

A neighbor of ours has a 3 series with some very low pro winters....hes had to replace 2 or 3 rims but he really loves the look. I wouldn't try driving around here without a minimum 60 series sidewall.
Lighten up Francis.....

One of the reasons why pickup trucks out sell cars. You don't notice the potholes as much. Our roads suck. >:(

I guess the roads around here aren't too bad. Four trouble-free winters on the GTI with 215/50R17s, and now on my fifth trouble-free winter with 225/45R17s.

Talk to me about it after front tire blowout pinched on pothole & towing ride this week, I have bought (2) new tires because it becomes quite hard to find identical type & size since discontinued, so I put the used one in storage in my basement, just in case it ever happens again ...

First ride ever on towing for my Volt...

Glad I made the change to 195/65R15 for my 3's winters a few years ago.

Edmonton’s roads are better than they’ve been in decades, but they’re still not great.  Lots of places you’d have to be very careful with low profile tires.

I’m currently in Edmonton and wow the roads are awful. Down Ellerslie and 101 street. Yikes. Henday was ok but sort of rthymic imperfections.

And this is the best they’ve been in a long time. Back in the mid 90s Edmonton lost a lot of transfer funds from the province and keen not to jack municipal taxes, roads were one thing that got neglected.

That’s why my burb has better (not great but better) roads as they decided to raise the hell out of property taxes. That’s when the tax difference went through the roof.

We also don’t have good ways to move trucks. The Yellowhead is plagued with level intersections and other than the Henday, there’s no way for them to move. So we have them rolling around on small surface streets, destroying the roads.

I moved to Edmonton in 1983. The only road we’ve really built since then is the Anthony Henday. Seriously. One major road in 36 years. The city is 2x the size.

It’s hilarious if you think about it. We barely have more transit. We have almost no new roads. And we have grown from 500K to over a million people. The only things we’ve built are new residential areas.

Over the last 25 years the city has just tried to patch things up.  With limited success.

Roads around here are in awful shape.  Not just potholes but the frost heaves seem to be getting worse with the constant freeze/thaw cycle we've been getting lately.  Some roads look like they've been carpet bombed and usually around busy intersections.

^This    Our roads have never been great but the recent trend of more and more freeze/thaw cycles has really added to the problem. Pothole season used to be a spring thing but now they start showing up throughout the winter.

Just buy a motorcycle and use the potholes as slalom practice.

And on the Yellowhead, BroDozers use you for target practice.

I think I could ride in the city as long as I stayed off the Yellowhead. No clue why, but I’ve found that the worst place to ride in the city by far.

Yes some of the roads are so bad that in the summer you could probably mow them as the grass and weeds show up in the cracks. ;D

I’m on the Yellowhead often and haven’t had many issues with agressive drivers on that stretch oddly enough. The Henday is worse. Can’t wait for Yellowhead to be fully converted into a freeway.
