One thing I did notice across the city of Edmonton the traffic moves slow. Must be lots of aggressive cameras about?

It seems to move slow but travel times almost don’t vary much between peak and non peak hours. Also because all the traffic lights are timed, it’s like a wave of green lights most of the time as long as I’m doing the speed limit.  There’s no need to go fast and waste gas playing the whole stop and go game. When I’m in a rush on a rare occasion, I think accelerating faster and pushing that 9 above the speed limit will get me there faster but all I do is waste more gas to get there at the exact same time.

I was referring to more free flow roads like the Henday. Even Hwy #2 leaving town was a little pokey.

Cameras cameras and more cameras.  Over 500,000 photo tickets per year.  Intersection cameras, cameras in vans, cameras all over the place. Draconian enforcement is defined by Edmonton.

I'm pretty sure Winnipeg had photo enforcement a few years before Edmonton, but now it seems as if Edmonton has surpassed Winnipeg.

Fingers crossed, it's been a few years since I've had one.  I'm pretty good at following the speed limit in the city, but my last photo radar ticket was in a school zone.  I was doing 51km/h in a zone that had dropped down to 30km/h.  I think it may have been a holiday Monday, and it was on a bigger road, so my mind just blanked.

Other places my have had photo radar before us, but no place has gone to the extreme that we have.

In the same of safety. Oddly, our stats are really no different from cities not using such extreme enforcement. Huh.

But, that’s over $50M a year into city coffers. That’s a lot of money

The province is bringing in legislation to limit the use of photo radar with strict guidelines. Trying to get rid of fishing holes.

I’m sure edmonton will either fight it, ignore it, or try to work around it.

Meanwhile, Albertans are cutting across three lanes to make a last minute exit after having had doddled in the passing lane forever.  I need a dashcam, oh the things I catch on a daily basis are money.

Yesterday I was doing 90 down the Henday (to save fuel) and a Kia Sedona was passing me to the left, no big deal. Until the driver suddenly realized she needed to make that exit. Slowed down all of a sudden and almost changed lanes into me. You just passed me, how do you not remember I was there? Had to slow down a lot, get passed by myself and another vehicle, then cut across the lane and offramp gore to exit. Diagram below. Green indicates maintaining speed or accelerating, yellow indicates slowing down but not braking, red indicates braking.

You will not be able to renew your license or plates if you don’t pay.

And people suddenly exiting the Henday from left or middle lanes is a common error. Happens all the time. Part of the issue is that almost no one uses the right lane in the first place.

BC has nutso drivers, omg. But Alberta has a LOT of completely clueless and inattentive drivers. I suspect that 20+ years of overlooking license selling businesses has put a lot of people on the road that couldn’t have passed even our ridiculously easy road test.

Thank gawd the NDP stoped that crap.

To be fair, I saw it a bit in Vancouver too, generally where the right lane is usually a parking lane in non-peak hours so everyone is used to the middle lane being the right lane, and therefore turn right from that lane.

Oh something I notice a lot on Fort Road is that people want to do 60 no matter what. 60 in a 50 zone, 60 in a 60 zone, 60 in a 70 zone, so I get passed in the 50 zone and held up in the 70 zone by the same drivers that passed me earlier. I don't get it.

I think bad drivers are a big city epidemic. Kelowna has been comparatively good. I hear Calgary is worse than Edmonton.

Germans do that too.

Someone blew by me last week doing 160 in the far left lane just to cut across me and another tractor trailer (4 lanes) to make an exit at the same troublesome interchange with the A3 and B45 at Hanau.

At least the speeds are lower in your neck of the woods.

And German infrastructure sucks too. Perhaps not the gaping holes like Montréal, but a rough ride over a large majority of autobahn and secondary roads. Good thing I drive a French car, smooths over the rough edges.

Back to potholes, there are a surprising number of wheels broken like this:

I can imagine that would be an exciting drive.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.
