this is why I would never get any remote starter that isn't vehicle specific with nice plug ins. Hacking into a vehicles wiring harness is a dice roll I'm not willing to make.

I remember what some buddies in high school did to their cars when installing car stereos and "high tech", $29.99 security "systems" from London Drugs.

we only do the Mopar one, or the Mass electronics one (which just "adds" it to the computer system). I hate messing with electronics.

also... what is with the douche in the comments on the article?

This happend to a friend of mine last year when he had a trailer hitch installed.   They somehow nicked the wiring harness and then tried to repair it but ended up frying the ECM.  He had to sue them for around $14k worth of damages. He won but it took him months of frustration. Dumb part is that I recommended he go to the place that does all of our trailer repairs for work but they quoted him ~$50 more so he said they were too expensive.  ;D
