Under $5k sleeper? I say a Saab is one of the best bets. O perhaps a GM with the SC 3800, preferably a Buick.

Miata is not a sleeper. Neither is a SC400. Come on guys...sleeper.

Really?  You think a SC400 is a car that shouts "performance car"?

Interesting....
The SC 400 you posted, is not a sleeper, lowered, aftermarket wheels & 2 big fart cans coming outta the back, that's not a sleeper looking car to me at all.

Here's a sleeper...

Volvo S60R AWD 300hp,

2007 Volvo S60 R S60R - AWD- RARE - CERTIFIED,

Likewise, anything with a big "R" badge on it would hardly qualify as a sleeper IMO....it's proudly stating it's anything but a sleeper with that R.    :rofl2:  It's not even trying to pretend.   ;D

And as far as the Lexus goes..I meant sleeper...because LEXUS.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Yes the S60R is indeed a factory sleeper. Just remove the R badge and wham, perfect sleeper. Better with manual, though. Only better sleeper is V70R :)

Some Lexus could be sleepers. THAT Lexus model is certainly not. 2 Door JDM looking long hood big twin exhausts thing? Stock, it is a little better, but there certainly are many better sleepers out there.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

The fact he wants a 2 door “sleeper” makes me think he doesn’t understand what a sleeper should be.

It was a half decent question, though.

Maybe if it wasn't already talked about.

Thanks for the input guys. Very interested in seeing more ideas. What about older sleepers too? Like mid 2000's to 1970's?
Definitely prefer angular body styles.
And no, this is not a one post wonder :)

Angular styling, hatchback, etc. Sounds like my slow moving project. Innocenti hatchback that I am likely putting in a more powerful engine. If it ever warms up I am going to evaluate the Tercel I bought as an engine donor (or not). It will be well, well under $5k when (and if) done.
