Nice, the $ gap is closing between the hybrid and the regular models.

I think a $25K Corolla Hybrid is looking very realistic based on the $32K RAV4 Hybrid.

That pricing just made the Hybrid the best RAV in terms of value.

Toyota says the RAV4 hybrid's fuel consumption is estimated at 5.8/6.3 L/100 km (city/highway), an improvement over the last one's ratings of 6.9/7.8.

Pretty impressive.

I didn't know we were getting that.

I really like the Corolla hatch. That the Golf and the new Mazda3 are the cars I'm currently considering.

Well that definitely deserves a test drive in a years time.  I'd love the fuel economy and my wife would love the 200+ HP.

Are all Toyota hybrids dead reliable like the Prius?

I had a look last year and it's a nice ute with LOTS of room inside and in the cargo compartment, which is expected when the body is 73" wide. Everything inside was designed well and finally the Rav gets ventilated seats in the limited trim(s). Bolsters seem too wide for me, same width as in my current car really, and the lumbar support is only 2-way. The front seats have a huge range of movement and so does the steering column. Ground clearance is impressive. It looks like they will fly off the lots.
P.s. :^^^ re: regular ICE models.

You've been away. Canada is getting Corolla Hybrid. Rumours were $25K pricing which is looking more like the real deal all the time.

The car did a Yuro economy cycle and achieved 3.6L/100km combined.  Not sure how that compares to our testing, but it shows the car is ridiculously efficient.

Neighbor ordered one. Dealer said approximately 4 months waiting (end march or early april)
Sold at MSRP. No haggling, didn't even throw in extra mats.

Friends of ours have the Corolla Hybrid and one second into their conversation the dealer said "sticker is the price, not considering a dime less."

My co-worker waited a month for hers.  The dealer (same place I bought my Tundra) had a few coming in, so she snagged one of them.  Hers is a mid-trim XLE.

I believe ALL the Rav4 Hybrids are sold before they hit the dealer.  You pretty much can't test drive a Hybrid, you have to test drive a regular Rav4.

Yeah, good luck testing one. I saw one on the lot and thought “omg, a not-sold RAV Hybrid?”

Nope, just waiting for delivery.

I hope someone here gets one or someone I know, I’d love to get ownership impressions over time.

I hear the next Gen High-Hy with the four cylinder three motor hybrid system has a significant jump in fuel economy - waiting to see what the hybrid premium is there. If the trend continues it’ll be small.

Watched some vid reviews of the Gen 4 Highlander. Looks like another home run product.

Wonder if there’s a plug in version of the Highlander coming as well?

It's my understanding that every vehicle that's currently a hybrid will be a plug-in...with the hybrid only version going away at some point.

Customers weren't interested in hybrids because GM didn't do hybrids right.

They had the Volt, a hybrid compact sedan in a market where sedans are dying.  And while the technology was quite good and well done, it was expensive.

And they had the Yukon hybrid, which was a mild hybrid that got practically no fuel economy benefit over the non-hybrid Yukon, also a very expensive option.  And the large SUV market isn't huge either.

So ya, a whole two models in uncompetitive segments, but apparently consumers don't want hybrids.

Meanwhile, Toyota offers hybrids in their most popular segments, like hatchbacks (Prius), compact CUV's (RAV4 and RX450h), and midsize CUV's (Highlander).  And guess what, they sell.  Now that they are reasonably priced, they'll probably outsell their non-hybrid xounterparts.

But, what else would you expect from GM?  They have a long history of screwing this sort of stuff up.

My problem with the first Bolt was the range was short (which is fine, so is the Prius).  But once the battery was drained the car got only so-so MPG.  And it required premium IIRC.

So it wasn't a great EV...nor a good hybrid.
