I really wonder how many stripper Colorados are sold.  My bet would be not too manyt

ZIPPO   Canyons always seem to be fairly flash.

My Dad has a newer Colorado as a daily driver, and while it is a close-to-base truck, even it has some options.  Like, chrome trim, carpeted floor, and 4x4, and a small (4"?) infotainment screen.

His truck is probably equipped much like the 'base' Ford Ranger will be equipped.

A base Ranger is $32,869 with freight.

The comparable Colorado – 4WD and V6 – is $34,600.

So, every single review of the Ranger compares it with the Tacoma.  Even Ford had the Tacoma on site during their launch event for comparison purposes.

I suppose this makes sense, seeing as the Tacoma is far and away the sales leader in the segment, and is therefore the benchmark.  Anyway, it's like Ford took the measure of the Tacoma, and set out to beat it:  Acceleration, Payload, Towing, Interior Comfort, Features.

And yet, I still don't think the Ranger will eat into Tacoma sales all that much.  Trucks, more than any other type of vehicle, are bought on reputation, and the Tacoma's reputation is Legen-(wait for it)-Dary.  I think the Ranger will cannibalize F-150's sales numbers a little, as well as eat into the Colorado/Canyon sales numbers.  Those people who were going to buy a Tacoma will probably still buy a Tacoma.  Even though the 3.5 D4S engine was a mistake for that truck (shoulda stayed with the 4.0).

Why would you say that?  What's needed in the Taco is an auto transmission change and a steering wheel change and a seating change ....  ;D

Everything I've heard from people who have owned the truck is that the engine doesn't make a good bunch of low-end/mid-range torque/power.  It's all very peaky.  It seems like the 4.0 and its more broad torque curve was a better fit for the truck, even if it was greedier.

I get why Toyota put the 3.5 D4S into the Tacoma (fuel economy, mostly), I just don't necessarily agree with it.  Wouldn't it be great if they adapted the 4.0 for use with D4S?

Also, why did they put the 3.5 into the Tacoma, but left the 4Runner with the 4.0?

Because the 4Runner hasn't been updated since that engine came out.

For the record, I'm not complaining about my truck's mileage, merely pointing out how bad it is.

DKAZ, you and I are the same age.  Bought big Toyota's within a week of each other, too.  I seem happier with mine, though.

Cool to see that Ranger is back on the market. With the Taco, Colorado and Jeep this year, its great to see that this smaller truck market is picking up.
Lighten up Francis.....

I'm not really complaining either. And I did like mine on Wednesday when it was +8 out, sunroof open. Actually overall I do like it, but the little things have prevented me from loving it. Maybe if I was able to use its capabilities more, I would appreciate it more. We'll see this summer.

Anyway, back on topic, has anyone seen any photos of the second row interior? I wanted to compare it with the Tacoma and Canyon.

^^^ This video does a pretty good job of comparing the Ranger and Tacoma, both inside and out.

GBA, yours has the new truck smell.  And the nice big price tag that goes along with it....
