Don't you miss the good old days of 20% mortgage rates
When I was entering the workforce in the early 80s I thought "well, owning a house is something I'll never do." I didn't think <10% mortgage rates would be a thing in my lifetime. Or <10% unemployment. Through the 80s even in Alberta unemployment was 10% or close to it, not dipping until 1990, and then back up in the recession in the early 90s.
People in Alberta think it's bad when we hit 8%. When the missus and I moved here in 1983 unemployment was 11.3%. "It's worse than the 80s!!" Nope, it's not. In 1983 we had 11.3% unemployment AND 20% interest rates. People have no idea of how bad it was here - either they're too young or they don't remember.
