agreed...personally, i'd buy the newer version, but for those who aren't as picky, perhaps a deal on a 2018 is a better choice (it's still a great vehicle).
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

i suppose, but i doubt there would really be any anyway...the new platform is only new to the RAV4...ditto for the engines and hybrid system...most of the stuff is pretty proven, and Toyota doesn't have a history of first model year issues.

Yeah, even though it's a new RAV, many of the bits are not first year.  I'd buy a 2019 RAV in a heartbeat.

Funny how your view is the total opposite of what Toyota marketing tried so hard to convey to the media folks attending California launch and obsessively echo-ed in virtually every single review word by word: aside from perhaps "few nuts and bolts" the 2019 RAV4 is all new.

To me, the fact that it's all-new truly,  it's a good thing and a driver to consider one. I don't buy the "tried and true" concept.

I was sure the driveline was already in use with the platform, but I think I'm wrong about that - the driveline is new for the RAV.  Not sure about the transmission, but seems the engine is completely new.

I'd still buy one.

aside from some of the visual things, like body panels, interior bits etc, the "new" stuff is simply new to the RAV4 (2018 vs 2019)...the TNGA platform is already used in other Toyota vehicles and the 2.0 Hybrid Synergy drive made its debut in the new Camry...none of this is bad...all the "new" stuff is really good, and it made a really good vehicle (2018 RAV4) even better...it's like having your cake and eating it too...you get the benefits of "new" stuff, without the drawback of being a guinea pig.

What are mortgage rates now?  I think in the 3s?  Car loans in the 5s don't seem insane given we've had some interest rate hikes lately.

When I was entering the workforce in the early 80s I thought "well, owning a house is something I'll never do."  I didn't think <10% mortgage rates would be a thing in my lifetime.  Or <10% unemployment.  Through the 80s even in Alberta unemployment was 10% or close to it, not dipping until 1990, and then back up in the recession in the early 90s.

People in Alberta think it's bad when we hit 8%.  When the missus and I moved here in 1983 unemployment was 11.3%.  "It's worse than the 80s!!"  Nope, it's not.  In 1983 we had 11.3% unemployment AND 20% interest rates.  People have no idea of how bad it was here - either they're too young or they don't remember.

I believe UNemployment rate in Thunder Bay was almost 20% in early '80's
We knew it was bad , but without the internet, and it took months the numbers to hit the papers
