I don't expect this is the kind of vehicle many people are willing to preorder without knowing the price.

X2....BUUUTTTT, there was a wait list for the PT Cruiser as well. No accounting for taste.

I have a list of cars I'd love to buy just to :censor: off people here.  lol

To be fair to dirtyjeffer, I think we would raise the same arguments when the Ford Maverick is unveiled.
nope...pretty much nothing but praise for the Maverick.

Well pricing has been announced for the US.  https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a37004933/2022-hyundai-santa-cruz-price/

I think they get a couple of models lower than what we will get in Canada, so I'm expecting the price in Canada to be closer to that $35K mark, which would be quite a bit more than a base model Maverick.

I called it in another thread that the Santa Cruz would start north of $30k in Canada. Don't even get auto climate control at that price but I suppose 5,000 lb makes up for it.

I remember when the base Tacoma double cab 4x4 V6 6MT started at $29k.

That was a while ago. They want 29 k for clapped out 200,000 km ones now.  ;)

Lol yea, the exchange rate was a little better.

This was the base model, complete with bare plastic bumper covers.

Wow now that's a optimistic starting price for us Canadians.  I know it comes pretty loaded but still.  Makes the Maverick look like a screaming deal.

I don't think it will sell very well at that price.

Whoo-eee.  All of a sudden they're competing in Tacomaland.

Given the choice between a Tacoma and the Santa Cruz for similar money, I wonder what most people will go for...?

$40k for a wish.com quality and the resale value of day old Kraft Dinner.....yeah, I'll take a Taco, a used Frontier and even the Maverick over this thing.

Wish.com quality?  Exaggerate much?  This Santa Cruz will have a much nicer interior than both the Taco and Maverick.  Resale value will be about the same as the Ford, but no way is it even remotely on the same level as a Taco.  I think this will be a really hard sell for Hyundai and basically a styling/lifestyle image sale.  If I want a cheap truck for the city I'm going to get a Ford Maverick.  If I'm paying $40K for a small pickup I'm likely getting a Taco or the new Frontier.  It's just that simple.

I agree that this effort is considerably more impressive than the Ford offering.  I don't know if it will have a better interior than the Taco (the Taco's interior while basic is screwed together very tightly), but I do know that I could probably fit in the Hyundai better than the weird ass seating position of the Toyota.

I am actually concerned about the Maverick roll out.  The full size Bronco roll out is not going as planned - dash rattles, misfitting roofs, dodgy plastics used in the cabin (source - Motor Trend), etc.

With Ford, I think it is important to wait for V2.0.

Ford keeps screwing up big intros....WTF??

I know!  I love what Ford is doing in terms of design but then they seem to have trouble putting it all together.

And this dates back to the....Explorer?

The current Explorer? Not good on Ford to have flop after flop. At least they didn't screw up their bread and butter F-150.
