2017 Lincoln Continental Reserve
« on: November 26, 2018, 07:26:34 pm »
A friend of mine who unlike me keeps cars way too long is considering a 2017 Lincoln Continental Reserve 3.0 AWD which is still new sitting at our local Lincoln dealer.  Just for some context he currently drives a Ford Taurus (which is now 7 years old) and before that had a Chevy Impala for something like 8 years.  The local Lincoln dealer is offering a $15,000 discount as a starting point.  I have absolutely no idea about large cars but if you like driving a large lazy boy sofa this looks like the ideal car to me.  I am wondering if anyone here knows anything about these or what type of discount is reasonable on a new 2017 basically top of the line model?

This is the one he is looking at:  http://www.cabotlincoln.ca/new/lincoln/continental/2017-black-300a-4219175.html

I'm just doing some research to try and talk him into buying it really, we are taking it for a test drive Wednesday, Thanks!

says sold...pulled the trigger already?
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

That is extremely strange because it didn't say sold when I looked at it on their website 5 minutes age..... but now it does.  This could be terrible or great I have to call him right away!

Without a doubt, this has the highest quality interior of any US car on the market.  Bar none.

I thought it was fantastic.

Beyond that....I can't help.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

The current Taurus is not bad. The one before that however... it's a spacious car and that's about the only good thing about it.

The current Taurus is also not good.

It's "Meh".

And 7-8 years in "Meh" is terrible.

For fun I Checked our the new nAutilus as a potential replacement for the mdx and was surprised how nice it was.

I haven't had a chance to check it out yet with a microscope.

As you know, I dislike SUVs.

But I really like the Nautilus.  And if I HAD to buy and SUV..this one would be near the top.

**EDIT**  I mean the Aviator, not Nautilus.

So one minute I looked up the car and it wasn't sold and now it's gone just like that and my friend didn't buy it... what a cruel world.  I checked and his Taurus is a 2013, not quite as old as I thought.

Seems to be back up?

The current Taurus is a little better than "meh".  And for someone who wants a large, comfy highway cruiser it's actually pretty decent.

My dad had one as a company car.  I think he took it to 200k km without much issue. I found it to be really comfortable, though the steering wasn't great.

Absolutely.

for some.

The average length of time Canadians keep a new car is about six years, so 7-8 is definitely on the long side.

To keep a car long than 8 years is the smart thing to do

True. I guess the longest I've kept my second car was three years but I tend to buy cheap things that suits my needs at the time then move on to the next thing when my needs/wants change, which is why I'm reluctant to buy newer for a second vehicle and eat the depreciation costs. Going on 6 years with my Mazda though and my plan is to keep the Sequoia for at least 10 years until the kiddos are grown up.

Yup, people keeping a car too short is exactly how we ended up with the upside down major thread...

Every time I see a Continental on the road, I think "What is that?"  Because I've seen maybe 3 or 4 ever.  My next thought is "That's a really handsome sedan right there."  Are they only available in black?  That's all I've seen.

Similar situation to when I picked up my Genesis - 2015 model, built in 2014 and still on the dealer lot when I bought it in early 2016.  This car should come with a whacking big discount - like 5 figures minimum.

7-8 years doesn't seem that long to me, though I've only kept one car that long - my '01 Maxima.  If a car is serving you well, and you're still enjoying it and not simply sick of it, why sell it?  I can't see myself moving from the Genesis inside of 5 or 6 years.  7 is not beyond contemplation.

And as for it being a sofa - I dunno.  Luxo barges aren't really being built any more.  Most luxury sedans handle pretty decently in today's market.  Heck, even a creampuff like the Lexus ES can carve a corner without scraping its door handles these days.  I don't know anything about the handling dynamics of this car, but I doubt they are short of at least decent.

6 speed auto seems a little retro, but assuming this is the 3.0 turbo, there is so much torque on tap that it probably doesn't matter.
