Nice although I don't think  you would want to race it for pinks against the new Regal. ;D

I always found that funny when I was at the track. I called it "the myth of the muscle car". With a few exceptions, many muscle cars would have their hands full with a Camry or Accord. LOL

Vectoring his torque.

Excellent review, Jacob. Seems like a great overall package. Rather refreshing you did not complain about lack of paddles, as many other reviewers have. Also I thought this was well-said:

Huh? Well, the Buick is not as expensive as that trio, but is more expensive than its mainstream counterparts. The result is that it occupies its own space. That’s great, because white space is easier to conquer – but it’s also hard, because the market is hard to define. And we ought not forget that the sedan is losing favour.

to be fair, it's all relevant...in their times, those cars were pretty decent performers...but keep in mind, a lot of the big block engines of the past sucked in comparison to today's engines in terms of power...you'd have 5L+ V8 engines with 225 HP...today's 2.0T engines make that look embarrassing...and today's large V8 engines (Corvette, Camaro, Mustang GT, etc) make 2-3 times that power, with ease.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

Or a new Sienna, Odyssey.....still, look at that. I would want to walk into the garage and see that everyday. The Regal is ok in its class but still, the whole class is boring AF.

but boring is fine in the class - they have to be a nice sedan that is comfy, well equipped, and with enough "sport!" to appease the driver in the family

Who gives AF if a modern Camry is faster than most muscle cars of 50 years ago?  Apples and oranges.  Would most guys here rather a modern Camry in their driveway or a Mach I, SS Camaro, Cuda, etc.  I know what my choice would be.

If I wanted something sporty for local use, the G70 it is. But if I wanted something for long distance touring, like a once in a lifetime driving holiday across Canada, I'd go for the Regal.

Or if I needed a family hauler with carrying capacity, but didn't want a CUV, the Regal hatch looks good.

And back in the 60's and 70's these "muscle cars" were just stripes, scoops, and a badge package away from Aunt Mabel's Skylark 2 door secretary special, oh yeah, and add the 4bbl 455 from uncle Norm's Electra 455 luxo-barge. I really appreciate the modern performance vehicles we have today.

I don't know how "urgency" and 4,270 lbs. with a normally aspirated V6 can possibly go together in a review? Must be a magic performance transmission indeed. Or a lower level of performance acceptance to get "luxury".

It really looks great, one of the better sedans on the road, especially the exterior front quarter view in red, but white is fine looking too. I agree with all Jacob's comments about interiors and this one is better than average, given the dullness colour pallet. The wheels, being silver and not boring, attract me too. To me, black/dark wheels are just steelie look alikes where someone forgot or was too lazy to buy wheel covers after buying their snow tires and I'm talking summer 30C time - IMHO. This somewhat dubious wheel colour trend pretty much killed a certain car purchase for me for the past almost year, as cars are too expensive to then go out spending 1.5k on aftermarket wheels too.

Storage space is WOW, like the Stinger and Audi Sportback. Too bad GM had to "intentionally" have to ruin pricing by making their top of the line car version require an expensive option package just to get a moonroof and a better sound system (still only 8 speakers at that) ?? Could be the deal breaker right there as the Regal ends up to be the same price after getting average/normally expected equipment  for high end, (but still lacking power and torque to weight - big time). The thing is, the Stinger has been criticized for creaks and rattles in numerous reviews whereas the Regal GS is a champion of sound suppression, whether it be road noise, outside noise etc. - I remember fondly still the superior NVH of my Buick Verano turbo. So in a nutshell what you are paying for here is LUXURY sport, at the expense of some performance, but still "OK" in that regard.

Now not mentioned in the article because it was solely about the GS version, was the ability to get pretty much the same performance by not buying a Regal GS, but getting a Regal with its standard 2.0T instead that has more torque lower down. At a lower price, minus some of the appearance.

Duh.

Or did you miss "at the track" part?

Duh.

Agreed.
