By the way, fuel economy so far in the city is a laughably bad 25L/100kms.  The engine has less than 200kms on it, and therefore isn't even broken in yet, so I should expect to see better performance as the truck ages.  But Geez, I have NEVER seen fuel economy numbers that bad in my life!!!!

Don't expect any good numbers until next spring at this point... winter fuel, winter tires, snow... all going to mess with your fuel economy. Just be happy in your new ride  :rofl2:

I'm never actually going to expect 'good' numbers.  Just 'less bad' numbers.

I knew this going in, though.

5.3L, right?  That is probably the most efficient V8 found in a half-ton.  My brother had the 4.8L in his Chev (he sold it a year ago) and he said it was more greedy than he expected.  It probably had to work harder than the 5.3L.  Must be why you hardly ever see the 4.8L.

My 5.3 has the 6 speed tranny , and it almost never deactivates the  Cylinders

In the dead of winter, my old 1980 Chevy van with a 350 V8 got 40L/100km in all city driving  :rofl2: thankfully those good old days are way behind me now

Yeah, in high school I drove a delivery van that got <10mpg, it was awful. The V-8 probably made 150hp. The bad old days...

So, I went and showed the truck to my parents this weekend.  My Dad has always been a 'truck guy', having owned 4 Dodge Rams, and currently owning a Chevy Colorado.

Funny story:  My mum liked the truck, and wants to get rid of her Land Rover before they more to New Brunswick (lack of dealer network in NB, she says).  She mused that she could replace it with a Tundra.  My Dad piped in and said that the truck is Massive, and would she really like to drive one around all the time.  My Mum answered with "Oh well, you can drive it, and I'll drive the Colorado".  I then say that if that's the case, why doesn't she just get a Colorado?  To which she answered: Oh, NO, I would never buy one of those..."

Facepalm!!!

Nice rig!     Congrats!

I'm pretty sure a good friend of mine is about to pull the trigger on a new Tundra.  He's definitely buying a new truck and asked me my opinion a few days ago.  Knowing he's one to keep his vehicles for quite a while I suggested Tundra.  He's coming from a 2008 Outlander and needs a better tow vehicle.  He'd also get better use out of truck than a suv.

On sale at Costco
https://www.costco.ca/CatalogSearch?langId=-24&storeId=10302&catalogId=11201&keyword=Tonno1118&sortBy=PriceMax%7C1

FIL has one of those on his F150.  Not really a fan.  I would get a proper truck cap, probably the raised one.

You need this

You know what I like about regular tents that go on the ground?  You don't have to pack them up if you want to drive somewhere for the day...

Would be more useful with an escape hatch at the back so you can hop into your Tundra in case of emergency.

Thanks.  20-day, 1000km Update, because why not.

According to Fuelly, I've got a lifetime average of 27L/100kms.  This terrible number is likely due to the fact that I drive mostly short trips on a daily basis, and the truck isn't quite broken in yet.  I'm starting to see trip averages of 21L/100kms, but Fuelly hasn't caught up yet.  I expect to see tank averages of 20-21L/100kms pretty soon.

The truck goes in tomorrow for a bit of warranty work.  The truck had a blown speaker (woofer) in the front passenger door.  The dealership diagnosed it a couple of weeks ago, and ordered a new speaker.

I installed the winter wheels and Blizzaks on Monday.  The truck handles better on slippery roads now.  It understeers less, and stops more confidently.

I found some space behind the rear seats that I can access when the seats are folded up.  This is where I will keep my hitch drawbar, recovery strap, etc.  I want anything heavy I keep back there to be secure so that if we get into a collision, or roll the truck, those heavy items aren't rolling around the cabin hitting occupants.  As long as I keep the seats in the down position, then those items will stay behind the seats.

I've been really, really happy with the truck so far as a daily driver.  I haven't used it for anything truck-related yet.  But it works really, really well as a family hauler.  It is comfortable, quiet, very powerful, and has a commanding presence on the road.  When we had the van, people would race to get in front of us, cut us off, and just generally be :censor:.  I see this sort of behavior far less often now that I drive a truck.
