yeah Mini would be a decent choice if they were in the ~$30k range for the S models, and maybe $35k for the JCW kit

$50k? Nope. Always has been the case, always will be. Wait a few years and get one for a significant discount.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

you obviously don't know me    :P

Had an R53 out of warranty. Was fine except for a dead battery and had to replace a window regulator. Just was a nightmare to work on.

Plus, you get it at a significant discount. Lots left over to pay for possible repairs. Grow some balls.

If I was going to roll my dice on some sketchy ass car, it wouldn't be a fake german mini, put me down for some 13B rotary in an FD3. If you really want a mini, why not just set a pile of $100 bills on fire and then go buy a proper hatch like a GTI or Focus ST.  ;D

you cannot knock a JCW Mini for not being a proper hot hatch, they (at least the gens I drove) are some of the best handling FWD platforms out there

Oh I can.....they were WAYYYYYY to expensive for their third world build quality/engineering. Sorry, there hasn't been a proper Mini since 2000.

like I said, wait a few years and they are not expensive whatsoever - depreciation balances everything out nicely

I agree the later gens have become bloated, but the R53 gen was a good size and its handling was tenacious. It just would not let go of a corner with good rubber.

Similar pricing to a Miata but you get more power, more space, AWD, and the available Midnight Back Special Edition. Sounds like a bargain if you ask me.
