The more I look at reviews and think about it, I think an Audi S4 or RS3 next spring would be a better option.  The 2017 240i is nice but a two year old model at this point with one year of its warranty ticked away sitting in the lot.  I like the idea of four doors as well since I still have two kids at home.  But you know I change my mind often as you all know.

The S4 is wonderful... but nowhere near as engaging as the RS3.  Really, I can't say enough good about that car.

Buy the 2017, and with your luck the 2019 will still be on the lot in two years.

Yes, think I’ll start saving my pennies.  I haven’t seen a single rs3 on the streets here.

What about the Infiniti Q60 Red Sport?  AWD and 400hp.

Forgot all about that one.  That's a great looking car!

Thought I've read that these have horribly numb steering as in no feeling at all.

Yes, I read the same of that drive-by-wire steering.   They do look good though.  Really nice engine and drive train as well.  Sure worth checking out anyways IMO.

Yes, and that 0 to 60 time was at a high elevation. At sea level it puts down mid 4's.

Just wait for the RS3 and save your pennies until then...oh and do a stage one on your Golf R in the meantime to tide you over until the Spring.  Would calm your desire to buy something new until the RS3 is an option.

I'd still get the 2017 240, rip it for 3yrs & then get the RS3, a 2020.

Or do a Stage 2 and then you don't have to buy the RS3.

At no stage does the Golf R ever sound as good as that RS3, plus the interior is a step up from the Golf.  Oh and he'd like to have something unique that no one else has in NL.

I’m holding off on the bmw plan for sure.  I really like the trying stage one idea, wish I wasn’t so scarred from my last engine blowing up.

If you weren't an auto writer, would you notice the steering in the Infiniti was "numb"?  I ain't never tracked my car, never will...it's not a track car, neither is a Q50/60.  In normal driving would it be so bad?  I can't say, all my cars are hydraulic... :P  Think the truck might be an electric rack... can't recall.

Every time I see the title of this thread I envision some boxy German-Swedish mash-up.
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

Definitely.  It's not as pronounced as some folks make it out to be, but the Infiniti's steering feels very much like a video game and what little feedback there is is quite artificial.  In fairness, I'm referring to the Q50, not the 60.

Also, it's certainly quick, but it doesn't feel like 400 hp to me.  Maybe they're tiny horses?  ;)

I'd agree with that.  My wife's Q50S, which I only drive from time to time, is no where near as pronounced as some articles lead you to believe.  But is it a little artificial feeling?  Yep, it is.....no question about it.  Mind you, I don't think it's something that 95%+ of people would ever notice, but it's there.
