2017 or 2019 BMW 240i?
« on: November 03, 2018, 06:32:15 pm »
Ok, so I think what I really want is a BMW 240i X Drive.  There are currently three options available at our local BMW dealership, one 2017, one 2018 and one 2019.  I am ruling out the 2018 right off the bat, it's red in a really red kind of way so it's not working for me.

Option 2 is a 2017 silver with premium and exec packages, it's called CPO but it only has 300 kms and has never been owned, it has an in service date of Dec 2017 but it isn't plated.   MSRP with freight and pdi and whatnot is about $62K before tax.  They are offering me $9,500 off now with a free performance exhaust so about $11,000 discounts and the CPO rate is 1.9% over 5 years.  I'm a bit concerned because this is now technically a two year old model and silver is not my #1 favorite color but very acceptable.

Option 3 is a just arrived grey metallic 2019 with performance exhaust and premium package and msrp of $62K before tax.  The rates are not as good as the 2017 and there are no discounts since this is a new model.  The thing is I like this color more than the silver.  I could do the balloon option and have about the same payment but still be on the hook for $18K at the end of five years.

On top of this the BMW guy is saying they have a national CPO promo starting next week so likely I can do even better on the 2017.  I'm leaning towards the 2017, they really want to move it but the metallic grey just looks so nice.  I spent an hour driving the 240i today and it seems so perfect.  Not much back seat room but we have an F-150 for that.  I think just by typing this I've talked myself into the 2017 but I'm always open to other opinions, thanks.

I'd like to hear from anyone that has a 240i.

Point out to them that the CPO is only what, 2 year warranty, so you'd be taking a certain financial risk if something serious were to go wrong. To offset that there should be $15k on the hood.  :D

It has three year full coverage left plus they add an extra year to power train so four years but I think I’ll get somewhere close to $15k, we’ll see!

Doesn't sound like nearly enough off to me for what is for all intents and purposes a 2 yr old ultra low mileage used car. I got about 14k off a 6 month old 76,500K MSRP X5 with 14800 on the clock.....and they gave me a 1 year warranty extension free and sold me the 2nd year for cost so I have what is in effect 5.5 yr 145,000 km full warranty from the time I purchased

This was in June of 2017 so it was still a current model year.

With all the money you save on the 2017, you could wrap it any color you want. Win-win.

My vote is 2017.

I love the car, driven my buddies M235i & I think it's a great car! He has the sport exhaust as well & it sounds fabulous, drove it this morning actually! And I would totally go for the 2017! I do agree with the others who are saying that they need to give you a little more discount. Probably should be ~$15k under is my thought.

Thanks, I think it is an awesome little car, my only minor hold up is I have to drop two kids at school every morning so the one in the back has to do a bit of crawling in and out.  I'll see what they come back with this week when the CPO promotion starts, I'm not sure what the promo will be.

As a kid I can't think of a cool car I wouldn't have crawled into the back to just to get a ride in it. Heck, I still do it now.

Yup, my 13yr old who's about 5'9" now crawls into the back seat of my 951 just to be able to go for a ride, while his older bro sits in the front.

Why are you selling the R?

There is no great answer but I'm at the point where I either stick with it for longer term or get something new.  Time for $800 60k service, need brakes and need summer tires and in about six months I'll be looking at extended warranty.  I saw this 2017 BMW 240i and it caught my eye, I never knew they existed really but when I looked into it and then drove it I sort of fell in love all over again.  I just like driving new cars, yes it's a bit expensive but it's what I like to spend my money on.  There is nothing wrong with the golf, but the 240i is really nice.

From a rational standpoint, the 2017 makes more sense and would be the better buy.

However, cars tend to not be rational purchases for anyone that's even slightly a car enthusiast, and it's not worth the 2nd guessing that often occurs when you make a left-brain decision. So if your heart is set on the 2019, then go for that because you'll be happier with the car that way.

There are no dealers here and I'm not a fan of the front styling on the Alfa to be honest.

I can't believe you're seriously considering going back to the brand.  That would have turned me off for a very, very long time.
