I've had 19 new cars with manual gearboxes... have I done my part?  :rofl2:

I don't think so... have you bought any of those 19?  :P

I guess we would have to poll whoever here has purchased a new manual car/suv to find out. I know of a handful, including me.

 :hello:

Yah, I was thinking about your Miata as one of the handful :)

:hello: here too. 100% of my purchases, both new and used. And in the last 6 months too!

I also influenced two manual transmission purchases my parents made ;D but they're old news now (2011 and 2014)

LOL, only on this forum would you have a Hyundai thread turn into a "how many manual cars I've purchased" thread.  :rofl2: :rofl2:

It's a shame that the concentration of this thread has been all about the transmission and not the car itself.

Just shows how great the G70 is when there is nothing bad to say about the car.

Does your Genesis need maintenance? (All scheduled maintenance is included, by the way.) You guessed it. They’ll come to you, pick up your car and leave you with a Genesis vehicle so you never miss a step.

I thought I read somewhere that this only applies if you live within 50 kms of the shop.
Did this question posted by Quad get answered by Patrick yet?

edit - Yes, within 50km of the Genesis Dealership. Apparently there is one in Mississauga as there is a website for it yet, there's no address given. The same for the Ajax Genesis dealership. Not sure these are stand alone Genesis brick and mortar stores. They may be just Hyundai stores that service Genesis. Maybe the Genesis guy can answer.
Quad - 73 km from Mississauga to Cambridge.

The car is great, period. A great effort and a terrific addition to the segment.

I think sales are going to be slow thanks to the juggernauts like Lexus, Mercedes, BMW and other established players that make it hard for newcomers. That said, if they keep giving us products like this and give it time and marketing, they will make a real dent.

I guess I just don't get why you don't see the same type of debate in BMW, MB, Audi, Infiniti, etc threads when they don't offer manuals either.  It may not be in their top motor, but at least Hyundai offers one here at least.

The highly powerful 3.3t probably masks the non-sportiness I found in the $47K 2.0t Elite. Unlike the reviewer, I found it had to be pushed to go hard around corners, it was not eager. It would do it but it did not invite driving hard. The wind noise is indeed well-controlled, which made the ridiculous tire noise stand out in relief. That noise was my biggest annoyance - I could drive around the other shortcomings I found. The transmission was weird after a power run when you lifted the accelerator - a whoomp followed by a slight slowdown before the thing upshifted to coast. Tried it 4 times under different circumstances, 4 times it got it wrong. Decent tires might help with the noise/roar, but who wants to lease, buy new tires and then find out, nope, that ain't the problem, body insulation is,

The back seat is well-trimmed indeed. Now try getting out of it - it's minute and I got my foot stuck between B-pillar and driver's seat and gave it a nasty wrench. OK I'm old and not that agile, but still.

There seems to be a need for something well made to take on the Germans. That's why I went for a test drive. That's why the brochure still sits here on my table - I had hoped for some liveliness and it didn't deliver at first blush.

And here all I read is 7 pages of drivel on manual transmissions. Too bad. Has anyone else driven the 2.0t? I'd like to hear your impressions in case I decide I need to try again, putting away my negative impressions for a fresh start. There's no competition at the price and I wish the car had made a better impression on me, so I'm willing to give it another try.

I'm totally with you there.  And it's a point I tried to make earlier.  How is a dedicated rwd sport sedan with sport suspension, manual transmission and turbo 4 motor NOT an "enthusiast" option?  Yeah, I get that it would be nice if a stick were offered with the bigger motor - a point which precisely nobody disputes.  But I don't get vilifying Genesis for not offering a manual - when they do actually offer a manual - but letting it slide for Audi / BMW / Mercedes, when they don't.

Nobody vilified Genesis.  I'm not sure where you're getting that from.  We merely wished that a manual transmission was offered, but said that it is an otherwise great car.

YOU"RE the one who is continuing this inane debate.  You are dogged in your persistence to vilify us, I'll give you that.

Lol - I'm sure you believe your own BS, but I sure don't.  Calling the decision not to offer a manual with the V6 lame / weak / pathetic / shameful and calling the car itself a "jacked up jelly bean" and an "also ran" I suppose you view as reasoned commentary?   ::)  ::)  Hey, I call that vilifying, but I don't expect you to agree.  Haters rarely self-identify.

FWIW I've always been consistent on wishing there were manuals on certain Audi's, etc. I was also annoyed back when the ATS came out that you could only get the manual on the ATS-V or the 2.0 but not on the 3.6.

Although to be fair Audi and BMW on just dropped the manual on some of their offerings. (A4 and 3 series)

Anyway, time has moved on and no one is doing it so yes it's certainly not Genesis's fault in that regard.

Yep - when I said they don't offer a manual, I meant not on cars that compete against the G70.  I don't recall the 3 series and A4 being dismissed as a pointless "also ran" for lack of a stickshift.   And yes, you are consistent. But show me a thread on an A4 or 3 Series where Chaosphere and GBA and the like spout off for 8 pages about how facking ludicrous it is for them not to offer a stick.  You won't find one.

as much as jaeger really got on an "offensive-defense" position, I'm with him... and your tone GBA has been fine, but Chaos has definitely come across as a hater on the brand/model with a shame on them mentality... so I get where he is coming from with his approach.

and for the record, I have purchased 4 new stick shift cars in the last 4.5 years... so I have tried. but in my next breath, i'll tell you that most brands are pretty dumb to keep offering them. roughly 3% of new cars sold are stick... and this category might be a somewhat more likely car to get in stick (so higher % take rate), but there is no chance it would hit 25%. I'm sure they have done the math and have a break even point for take rate and sales... at this point, they need the stand alone brand to survive, not just offer "wet dreams" as others mentioned.

as for the car... I think it looks like a winner! it needs to keep doing exactly what it is doing... winning over fans, convincing them that genesis is a true contender, and growing off that. young business people need to see this as a true alternative to the bmw and audi's, so it needs to lease well... for that to happen, it needs to retain value. that is the tough point... especially with the brand trying to put so much value in the purchase and service to the new customers... that part is only good for a new purchase really, so it might even hurt resale.
