+1 really enjoyed your insight here, Patrick. Thanks for sharing.

Meanwhile, I can't help but notice the folly in berating Hyundai for not offering a manual transmission in their 3-series-fighter, while the new 3-series itself will not have a manual  :rofl2:

Yeah but thats BMW, its expected from them, they are no longer the ultimate driving machine, they are now the ultimate machine when you don't want to show up in a Toyota Camry  ;D
But the market doesn't want an ultimate driving machine anymore.......

Yup.

Seeing as the States don't get the 2.0T manual model we get in Canada (they get a base model offering that doesn't have all the go fast bits that we get), I can't help but think they should have chosen to have the power go to all the tires.  They offer the 2.0T with AWD already, and if it's a sporty offering in Canada, I'm sure a AWD model with a stick would sell more than a RWD model.

Maybe in a few years we'll be lucky and they'll offer some kind of BMW M3/M4 competitor with a manual for all us car people.

If Genesis only cared about profits I think they would have about 10 CUV's in their lineup already.

Something that I thought about the other day but hasn't really been discussed with regards to luxury vehicle manufacturers, with the amount of pickup sales in Canada and the USA, why hasn't any of them thought about venturing into that arena?  A lot of those pickups are being bought in a spec that make them closer to a luxury vehicle than a old school pickup now anyway.

Haha, fair enough :)

but further to your point, [EDIT: and to repeat what others here are saying] it seems Hyundai is indeed going after the 3-series sales crown, not the "ultimate driving machine" crown, which is now worn by...Cadillac ATS? Alfa Giulia? I dunno. All i know is neither sells nearly as well as the 3er.

Let's remember that the G70 is the only vehicle in this class that offers a manual at all. The 2019 3-series has no manual, the manual has been dropped from the 2019 A4, and the Infiniti, Lexus, and Mercedes options haven't offered manuals for quite a few years now. The ATS sedan is dead for 2019 as well.

This thing does look pretty darn nice and kudos to Hyundai for at least offering a manual in some version of the G70.

I'm a fairly staunch supporter of manuals.  So much so, that I'll probably be buying used rides for next little while as long as reasonably low mileage manual models are out there for daily driving.

But even I'd concede it's exceedingly unlikely that offering the G70 3.3 would make any kind of business sense for Hyundai.  The market of folks like me (and others on here) is sooooo small.   The argument that offering a manual will build enough "enthusiast cred" to drive overall sales higher is ludicrous.   An ad with some paddles shifts (just like F1!!!) would do more or less the same for 99.9% of the audience.

Sure, it's a shame more people don't want manuals, but it is what it is.   Doesn't make sense to build something that won't generate a positive (and tangible) ROI.

If Genesis only cared about profits I think they would have about 10 CUV's in their lineup already.

I can assure you unequivocally that Genesis only cares about profits and growth.   That may be long or short term depending on their market and plans...but it's all that really matters in the end.

Lol - well I suppose you would know!  ;) But no - sarcasm is not trolling.  Just affirming (by pretending to disagree) a point I made much earlier.  The existence of the 2.0T Sport Manual clearly does not count for those railing about how lame / weak / shameful / sad it is that they don't offer the manual with the stick to gain "enthusiast cred".  Like I said, if a car can't be an "enthusiast" car because it has a 2 liter turbo, that is going to come as a disappointment to a lot of peeps.  ;D

My point is, Chaosphere and I have stopped, and you're still going on about it.

You called me a troll some time back for daring to disagree with you.  Turns out you're the one who can't have a civil, mature conversation about something without resorting to sarcasm, or saying the other party is having a hissy fit.

I think many of us agree on two points:
1. It would be nice to have a manual with the V6.
2. It doesn't make a business case so it's not likely to happen.

If it wasn't selling well, and the reason was lack of a manual, Genesis may have spent the money to develop a transmission. Else, if it does sell well and the company has a surplus of cash, they can then develop a manual to further expand their base.

On another note, wish Acura built something like this. I'm no fan of the ILX or TLX.
