  Yes, the 951 is in the stable... always wanted an air-cooled 911, but I think they're a bit out of reach, and the ones that are within reach, are just too beat up. Leaning heavily towards a 997.1... there's a couple up for sale right now at reasonable prices, but unfortunately for me being unemployed for 11 weeks earlier this year killed some of my savings. Plan was to have one by September of this year, that might get pushed to next spring... or if a killer deal comes up over the winter I might jump on it and just stare at it in the garage all winter

Crazy that you can pick up some pretty late model 911s for less than an old air cooled car. But, that might be changing. Was chatting online with an old friend from the PCA last night that's still very much into collecting 911s, and he says that it's looking like everyone that wanted one badly enough to shell out huge bucks now has one, and prices are either stagnant or actually falling. He sold a 79 911SC to a guy last fall at a pretty decent price as the driving season was over, and the guy fell into some financial trouble over the winter. He ended up taking a small loss on the car despite selling it at the start of the summer.

Some truly collectible cars ar still rocketing, but the shine might be off the run of the mill 911s.
