My somewhat-biased two cents on this? It's too easy to simply acknowledge the Type R as superior on-track if price is being taken into consideration. Naturally any car needs a bit of track prep, but for the $6K price gap between these two, you could buy a lot of "equalization" for the N. Of course, I can't advocate that anyone modify their car, but it's worth noting.

Fair point.  Also worth noting that you can price out a GTI beyond the level of this fully specced Veloster N.
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

I agree that at that price point the N is faster than a GTI, Mini, Focus RS, Civic Si, etc.  But when you start down the road of adding a budget for mods I start thinking about getting a used RWD vehicle and modding it to be a track car.  For the budget that a Civic Type R costs I think I could probably build something that would be faster than that or the N.  But I see what you're saying.  Different tires, a tune, some suspension and transmission work, and the N would probably be faster than the Type R.

^^Nissan 350Z/370Z would be a great base for a track car.

Yeah....while I like the N much better than the R, simply for the looks, something rear wheel drive would be my choice for the track as well. Either a Toyobaru GTZ or a 370Z would make way more sense to me.
Lighten up Francis.....

But for the price, not much comes close.
i checked out the 3 vehicles and built all 3 to see what the difference in total prices would be.

Veloster N - $568.69/month, 84 months. Total price: $47796.96
Golf GTI Autobahn - $614.99/month, 84 months. Total price: $51,659.16
Honda Civic Type R - $696.91/month, 84 months.  Total price: $58540.44

The consensus appears to be that the Type R is the best, but it's worth noting, using the typical payment methods, it would cost you $10,743.48 more too, so there's certainly that to consider.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

With the Z you have a point, even though it's ancient and has a WalMart grade interior it does have retro charm and enough grunt to haul ass. Different experience all together from the N or the R but worthy in its own regard. No way I would want the gutless wonder that is Toyobaru over the N or the R for the track. Though I maintain that the R is a no-go in any event, absent a lifetime supply of barf bags from the manufacturer to deal with the inevitable consequence of looking at it.

With the $20k or so you will have leftover from buying the Toyobaru, you can quickly cut the powerloss with some forced induction.

I checked out the lease payments for November on the Veloster N and the GTI.
Veloster N was in the mid $800/month range while the GTI was in the mid $500/month range.  Hyundai hasn't put the December lease info up yet.

The Miata has the same issue as the Toyobaru in my books. They are both great cars, but both need more cojones.

But the Miata doesn't have a weird dead spot right in the middle of the torque curve that consistently leaves you sputtering on every upshift. The Mazda's modest power would not be a deal breaker for me because it is a sweet fast revving little gem of a motor. The coarse Toyobaru wheesebox just does not inspire, though.  I'll take a dinosaur 370z any day of the week over one of those.

As an aside- saw a super riced-out Toyobaru here locally with the license plate FAST ISH. Give that dude full props for keepin' it real.

That deadspot is very annoying. My buddy has an FR-S and a tuner made that way, WAY better. I get it, the 350Z is a great deal at the $30k-ish range of the market.
