Still using the old Civic platform.... why?   ??? ::) ???  The new Civic isn't even new anymore - what are they waiting for?

Seems to be a pretty good value. In the U.S. they dropped the pricing significantly for 2019 too.

This is a pretty good value at $36k?  :o  If the Civic Si didn't exist, then maybe.  But no.  Actually, just plain no.

Do you think its possible Honda doesn't really care all that much about its Acura division?  To not have a new ILX based on the Civic platform that has been out for, what, 3 years?  Seems crazy to me.

Only two advantages I see are:

1) The motor is NA and tried and true.  If you're buying for the long haul it will likely have less issues as it ages.  Same for the whole platform, this generation of Civic has had a few teething issues.

2) That transmission sounds pretty interesting for an auto.

Not sure what the Si has to do with it since they are clearly targeting very different buyers. The $30k base model seems very well equipped for the price and it's thousands cheaper than say an Audi A3.

Not sure that a tarted-up previous gen Civic bears comparison with Audi regardless of who they are "targeting".  If Genesis re-skinned a previous-gen Elantra and said it was their new A3 competitor you KNOW you'd be scoffing.  And you'd be right to do so.

That's a good take on it.  It really sounds ridiculous when you put it like that!

But then a3 is a tarted up VW golf.  Granted, I think it's on current mqb platform.

yeah, this thing is as much a dud as the Verano (tarted up Cruze), except it is even worse because it is not even a current platform, and they are charging more, not less, for it

Skoda does the same thing with Audi platforms, but they are a lot less money.

The level of laziness and cockiness in manufacturers these days is just sad.

 :iagree:
If I was shopping for a Civic Touring I'd check out the ILX as the K24 DCT combo is much more appealing than 1.5T CVT. Other advantages are smaller but lumbar adjustment is nice to have.

One benefit of the old platform is the interior is less odd looking than other new Hondas.

I'm no fan of the ILX, but the engine is a good one (7000 rpm? redline).

meh, it's not that high revving (1.6L?) singing beauty from the old Si Civics of yesterday.

The ILX is a TERRIBLE new car buy.

However, it is an EXCELLENT used car buy since they depreciate quite heavily.

I would gladly purchase that over a new base-midlevel Civic, mainly for the additional refinement and a quicker powertrain. Trying to avoid the CVT train.  :P

I'd gladly take the Dynamic model that was offered up until 2015 with the Civic Si drivetrain (including manual transmission).
