I wonder with the new Altima coming in AWD form if the next generation Maxima will offer AWD.  That would definitely make it more appealing to me.  Right now I'd probably take the new Avalon over this Maxima.

I didn't realize you were 70 years old.   :P

I think these peaked about 15-20 years ago (we had an '03 that was a really decent car for the times). Since then they've become kind of "meh" as the market and competition have passed them by.
Old Jag convertible...one itch I won't have to scratch again.

Agreed.  My '01 was leaps and bounds ahead of Camry, Accord and the like of its time.  The Max has been steadily diluted from 4DSC to just another commuter sedan.

Ironic that they've only recently began referring to it as a 4DSC again.

They brought that marketing back (or started it?  not sure) with the 2009 redesign.

They only started using the badging again with the 2016 model though.

Disagree.  They had a little 4DSC decal in the rear low corner of the back doors.  I specifically remember seeing this badge when I saw one on a showroom floor way back in 2009.

I know we're just splitting hairs, but still...

The Maxima has been getting diluted from it's peak since the early nineties.

I was upgraded to this Maxima at the car rental because of a hold up with the Sentra I was schedule to rent. What a fantastic car. Power felt very good and you wouldn't know there was a CVT between the engine and the wheels. Great ergonomics and amenities. I think they can still keep their 4 door sports car slogan.

I had one too, and felt the exact opposite. "Me" at best and certainly felt rental-grade.

^^^ My take when I test drove it comparison  shopping for my current ride falls between the two polar opposites above. Good, not great. Solid pairing of engine and transmission. I was prepared to hate the CVT but found no cause. But the interior had some of the cheesiest plastic I have ever seen. And the overall impression was: nothing special. It felt like pretty much most mainstream midsize offerings. And with new Camry and Accord on the market,  it probably doesn't quite measure up to them. 4DSC? Nopedy-nope-nope.

Genesis has likely taken that moniker and used it for the G70...but, it's also more money than a Maxima.

G70 is in a different category - along with Nissan's own Q50.  But my point is that Maxima stopped being a 4DSC long before those entries hit the market.  And I expect if you ran a direct comparison between the Maxima and the most sporting renditions of the new Accord and Camry - the Max wouldn't come out on top.  And they aren't more money.  Since the Altima grew to Maxima size back in ('04, was it?) Nissan hasn't had the first clue what to do with their formerly flagship sedan.  I know when I bought my '07 Altima SE 3.5 I was faced with the question - why would I spend considerably more for a Maxima?  I had no answer.

Anyone remember this commercial? Realistic or pure marketting?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AAF1TtnuhbA

It's unfortuante the Maxima lost the manual transmission I think in 2007.
