you might find this of interest, sales in Canada for August 2018 vs Aug 2017

Fiat 500L:  1 (0)
Fiat 500X*:  7 (8 )
Jeep Renegade*:  55 (177)
Honda Fit:  188 (435)
Chev Trax*:  427 (463)
Mitsubishi RVR*:  479 (613)
Toyota C-HR:  575 (526)
Ford EcoSport*:  581 (n/a)
Honda HR-V*:  719 (772)
Nissan Kicks:  743 (n/a)
Mazda CX-3*:  1,271 (932)
Kia Soul:  1,322 (1,394)
Hyundai Kona*:  1,624 (n/a)
Nissan Qashqai*:  2,047 (1,557)

*AWD optional

So the Trax is selling twice as well as Honda/Toyota? Perhaps the T in NormT stands for Trump.

He said the Encore as well which is missing from that list, but 990 (938). And he said the HR-V, Trax, and Encore double C-HR sales which is not true for any single model, the Encore comes the closest at 1.72x.

Perhaps the takeaway conwelpic intends from these numbers is the truly strong consistent sales (2017- 1322 2018- 1394) for the "dated, no AWD " Kia Soul which hasn't changed much since 2014. He's enjoying his second one. Sometimes you get it right the first time...
Souls are everywhere around here...AWD is nice, but it isn't the be all and end all some imply...having that option is great, sure, but even in vehicles where AWD is available, they still likely sell plenty of lower trims that don't have it.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

Yeah. You're right, of course.

I don't understand it. My Passat has a huge cabin, huge trunk and still gets better fuel economy than any of these. 6.3L/100km at 120kph in cool wet and windy weather on the trip to Winnipeg and back, while still having decent power.
And your car having zero style.

I'd say the vehicles here are at least about some style...love them or hate them
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Conservative styling works for me. Not everyone is a 15 year old lusting after an Autobot Sex Toy tm.

Styling aside, I could likely have done similar with an Accord or Malibu, which are more flamboyantly styled. The point is efficiency suffers with short, tall vehicles no matter how tiny the engines.

i think fuel economy score shouldn't have been so heavily weighed, to favor FWD-only competitor when everyone else was sporting AWD(and resulting higher price).

I noticed that as well, how can a 1L/100 or so better fuel economy translate to 50% better fuel economy score???

It also did about 20 percent better in as tested. It scored 15 percent points more than the others as a result. I like putting up the scores, I think it's good people can make up their own minds using our results and applying their own weightings etc.
I'm glad we've started doing it more transparently... Even if you do all think I'm a muppet! :)

Well, after reading the full reviews, I think the Mazda would be my choice if I was in this market.

Actually, my daughter is starting to talk about replacing the Rogue with something smaller. The CX-3 is one she has mentioned if she was to stick with a small CUV type vehicle.

There was one that was supposed to open in Toronto, but got its permit revoked.  We'll see if Vancouver is more lenient with this new type of business.

As for the cars, I'd get the CX-3 out of the four tested; but I likely won't fit comfortably into any of them.

Likely not their demographic.

I'm fine with wanting something practical, (even though my "coffin" is quicker than any of these, has a stick, more room and still gets better fuel economy) and not trendy.

After reading the various segments of the article and looking at the two tables comparing the group, there was nothing that would have made me change my decision on the Crosstrek.  It still offers the best for what I need.

That being said, the Kona would make an interesting 2nd choice.

I don't think rrocket meant any insult seeing how he drives an LS.  :)

Haha...looks like it.

Mind you, if asked to guess what daily driver rrocket was getting to replace that LS, I would have submitted IS-F as my first 99 guesses before considering anything else.
