So a track car with R compound Michelin cups that can't track because it doesn't have adequate cooling. Anyone else find this ridiculous?

No more ridiculous than people buying other "track package" cars and never bringing them to the track....

:)

How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Seems a bit silly. Is this something that can be fixed in the aftermarket?

Civic Type R matched the time for the Focus RS in 2016, despite being down a non-insignificant amount of power, and two driven wheels (which, according to some on this forum, apparently makes a difference).

Also, given the Mustang GT's propensity for overheating, I think that if you pitched the Civic Type R against the Mustang GT in an endurance race, the Civic may come out ahead, despite it being 10s/lap slower.

as I have said many times, it is not the drive wheels, but how the car is set up that makes the difference on the track. FWD can be very fast if done right, just as AWD and RWD.

Civic R is boy-racer ugly, but damn is it quick. I also think a track special car that can't drive on the track is kinda dumb.
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Very impressed with the ZR-1 showing. The GT2-RS is basically a race car, and the 720S is a true mid engined exotic that costs at least 2x as much.  The corvette is pricey as American performance goes, but it's a bargain considering the pack it runs with.

Yeah, GM has really upped their game with regards to their performance division.  The ZR1 is a monster, and the Camaro has some pretty significant performance chops, too, punching well above its price class.

The Mustang GT did well!

Yes, but also: But with no differential cooler, the rear axle overheated every time we took the Mustang out, often in as few as three hot laps, and even with easy laps staggered between them. So there is one thing it needs besides a proper name.

Other than the usual surprises I know the Stinger isn't a track car but I didn't think it would be that slow.

Yes, the omission is surprising, yet, the achievement is impressive.

Is there a sensor to tell you the rear differential is overheating?

Looks like there are a number of diff cooler kits for $1-2k if a person is tracking their car, and not just keeping it as a garage queen.

7500km in 13 months? What's the vote?  ;D

 :shuffle:

Uhm....  :shuffle: ;D

The diff temp is an issue for people who track. For the guy who just wants a fast car, it's probably not such a big deal, though it is kind of disappointing.

Sure, I agree.

These kinds of events are more about marketing and bench racing by fanbois really. Which is where the R-compound tires come in. I'm guessing the rules wouldn't let them throw on an aftermarket diff cooler though, even if it was Ford Performance.

R-compounds are completely street legal.

Not really sure about the tires on the Mustang, though. Article says they’re Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2s. Are they actually R-compounds? I see that Canadian Tire sells them.  ??? ;D

Yes I know they're legal but they are awful on the road. Even with my 200 tread wear tires they pick up every little stone and they are dicey in the rain. They also need to be heated up big boy style and I know these things are all much worse with an R compound.

I used to think it would be fine when I lusted for Z06s and what not but know that I know what these tires are all about I generally think it's silly (unless you're truly tracking the car).

I didn't find my RE-11's too dicey in the rain (I can get the rear end loose, but the car still felt stable, I even did lapping in the rain with them) or even needing to get warmed up too much and they're only a 180 tread wear tire! They do suck in the cold though, that's for sure.

Yea, but I'm guessing if there's a hint of rain your car stays parked...partly due to the tires?
