The Turbo got all the love but the base Supra was a more than competent performer at the time.

$65k in today's US dollars. Not exactly a value proposition.
On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

That's probably why the segment was killed off.

A great review that captured what Toyota does so well.

I think so. The Supra used to compete with the pony cars, but it, the 300ZX and RX-7 went way upmarket. Not too many of their loyalists could afford to follow, at least not in the new car market.

That upmarket move was largely due to the value of the yen. All of those cars increased in price rapidly through their model runs (though the Supra eventually got a huge price cut).

Yeah, in the early 90's it sky rocketed.

Yep, exactly.  I remember when Toyota killed the Supra, and as awesome as it was, I wasn't too surprised.  They were quite pricey back then.......around $60k cdn IIRC.
