Who in their right mind is buying this thing at $50K?  The interior is just funny how dated it looks.  Nissan actually has some decent interiors in their newer products, so why didn't they make any effort to update it in the Z.

That being said I'm happy it exists as it's another fun RWD manual vehicle in a market saturated with CUVs.

I test drove a 2009 version of this last Thursday for an out of town friend who was interested in one here locally... and I would agree that the interior is on the dated side, but it's still held up well. The one I drove had only ~60k kms on it and all of the switch-gear was in excellent shape, as were the seats, doors, etc... so there's something to be said about the longevity. The car I drove had an aftermarket SS exhaust that gave it a bit more rasp, sounded pretty good overall. The V6 pulls like a freight train pretty much from the get go, while the chassis felt quite compliant and planted. I didn't find any harshness in the drive, nor were there any knocking sounds or vibrations in a 9yr old car. It was riding on 19" forged wheels as well and had the 4 piston brakes up front also, I found the braking nice and linear and even with the big wheels on it, the ride wasn't harsh in any way... much smoother than my 951 that I drove out there in. The transmission had nice short precise throws and the rev-matching could make your wife sound like Mario Andretti behind the wheel  :rofl2:

Overall I came away impressed with how the car drove, handled, quietness and how it held up to the years & mileage. And his asking price on a really well optioned and taken care of car was $18.5k... a lot less than the $50k of a new one and will give you the same amount of smiles behind the wheel  ;D

And here's a couple pics of it.

I'm surprised every time I am reminded they still make these. I hardly ever see one or even read about them in the automotive press.

Maybe I'm in the minority but I still think the 370 looks quite nice. I drove by a Nissan dealer yesterday and they had one of these Nismos out front and I said to myself "looks good, man."

Now the value this is a whole different conversation but if I were a younger guy wanting a sports car I'd be getting on of the base 370s for cheap and using it as a mod platform.

Agreed on all points.  And Id rather a base Z than a comparatively gutless Toyobaru.

The blue Heritage Edition would be my pick of 370Zs.

What's not to love - big NA V6 with ~350HP, 6 Spd manual, Rev Matching, nimble chassis, good looks and 2 seats?
Dash strokers need not apply.

I've noticed that for most companies, updating the interior seems to be really hard - platform sharing almost always means interior sharing. I don't know if it is time intensive to create a new design, or high cost to set up the manufacturing. but you'd think that having done it once for a particular chassis, a lot of the work could be re-used.

Nissan successfully updated the rather agricultural interior of the GTR. The reason they haven't done it here, I suspect, is that they have all but given up on the Z.

I think the Nismo versions are by far the best looking, but they all come standard with a bone jarring ride and I am too old to put up with that :censor:. Blackcherry convertible for me. Used, of course.

I kinda like these, different, and fairly unseen.

And, they depreciate nicely, no?  Guessing this is the base car.

And a 2016 Nismo

Probably could be a little cheaper on the 2016.

Negative.

They are currently working on the next version...completely new Z.

IMO, it's not a stretch to call this the Poor Man's Cayman.

I love these...and would mod the :censor: out of it turning it into a FBO....400 crank HP.

I was referring to the existing model and the lack of an update to the archaic interior. Of course a brand new model would have a brand new (and hopefully non crappy) interior.

Oh...I misunderstood and thought you meant given up on the Z as in letting it die....which there was much speculation was going to happen.

That's what the owner of the one I test drove and I actually said last Thursday, but a Cayman will cost you more used & you'd have to get a "S" model to get the same performance, so now way you're getting one for $18.5k.

Yes you can buy a 10 year cayman S for nearly the same price of a price of the 370z (base model),

if i'd get one, i'd buy the "sport coupe" model at $34k + pdi/freight

it comes with rear lsd diff, bigger brakes, etc.
