Not always, though.  Cruise Control doesn't handle hilly driving very well...I can get better economy with my right foot in hills.

I think it depends on the company
The cruise in my Chevy truck will drop in speed  by over 5 kph , but with the Lexus it will only drop about 1 kph in hills

The Lexus cruise works much smoother

I sometimes use cruise control when I am early...set it to the limit or just below and stay in the right lane.    When I do this I select the immediate fuel economy on the trip computer and watch it.   With the Q5 having 8 ratios in the transmission it manages to keep the speed constant and the rpm as low as practical.  Obviously it uses more fuel up hills  because it has no knowledge of downhills whereas a real human would go faster down hill for some free momentum for the uphill bit.

I read somewhere that the latest Rolls Royces have that capability with their GPS and navigation systems integrated with cruise control...could be true but it is difficult to imaging a car manufacturer intentionally allowing a cruise control system to break the speed limits.
The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution.

Having to drive a few hours on the prairie to get to the mountains, cruise control is a godsend.  I use it in the mountains if the traffic is light.  I prefer consistent speed over the slight improvement in fuel economy on hills.

After driving down the QEII a few times to Calgary and beyond, I want adaptive cruise control.

This x1000. I am on cruise 9/10 in the city due to the ridiculous speed limits in and around Edmonton.
Lighten up Francis.....

Lol same! Plus photo radar everywhere. Started seeing the "intersection safety cameras" catching speeders.

Same, I didn't move to Alberta to save money on housing but then spend a boat load on speeding tickets. But the one rare time we're in a rush to get there, they'll be out to get us.

My stats:

Over 300,000 km driven in BC, 2 speeding tickets.
10,000 km driven in Alberta, 1 speeding ticket.

I went down south to Crowsnest this weekend and there were several police cars rolling up and down Highway 22 as well as one stationary radar catching speeders left right and centre.

I haven't had a proper big boy speeding ticket, radar, since about 2005. Photo radar....I've had about a dozen since 2000ish.

Maybe  you Albertans should vote in a proper provincial government then.     Not to mention a proper Edmonton government.    Did it in Ontario...that's how Mike Harris got in cos he promised to get rid of photo radar.

I use the CC in my RX-8 on the highway as much as practically possible. Sometimes the traffic gets a little too dense to use it, though.

I have tried the ACC in a new Corolla rental in Cali once. Very nice system that adjusts the speed to keep a certain distance away from the car in front of you. Supposedly, some manual cars have that as well, which would be nice to have in the future.

Then there was my 99 Corolla CE that doesn't have CC at all, LOL.

I was coming home from dropping the kiddo off at university on Sunday, had the cruise set at 127, I was amazed at how many vehicles passed me.  Then I remembered that there are NO highway patrols in this part of NB.  In NS, on the cobequid pass, there was a Mountie with a handheld radar gun, and four cruisers pulling people over.  Two more cruisers on the other side of the pass, luckily my wife was driving then.

The new Corolla hatchback for one, although only at more than 40 km/h. The one that the CVT model gets can completely stop the vehicle if needed.

Lol I freaked out when I went by a photo radar truck doing 60 in a 50 once, but never got anything. My first ticket an undercover Ford Ranger pulled me over in Mission BC. Second ticket was a radar at the QEII northbound at the exit for the Anthony Henday. Third one was a marked Explorer driving the other way.

Yea, it's the NDP's fault, we have to get the Conservatives in. /sarcasm

We could be like BC and properly fund the police departments using property taxes to end this whole speeding ticket for general revenue issue.

I use ot all the time on the highlander

You have it in both vehicles! Are you planning on selling your Sienna anytime?  ;D

Yup, couldn't tell you the last time I saw a cop on the TCH in NB.  FWIW, I also heard that there are only 2 cops on traffic duty in Moncton.

Very rare that I see a cop between Fredericton and Moncton, sometimes I see them north of Fredericton though. There's sections where I set the cruise to 140 and everywhere else it's 130. I've only ever got one ticket on the TCH in NB and that was in 2005.

Occasionally there is a cop in the median of the TCH just west of Moncton, as you approach Magnetic Hill/McDonald's/CasinoNB.  They sit on a spot where eastbound traffic is coming over a bit of a blind crest.  Anyway, it's been a really long time since I've seen a car there, though.

Municipal governments in Alberta are now reliant on the huge fees from photo radar and the cops scream that we’re all going to die if they don’t have it. So, we have it. A LOT of it.

A warning for our new Edmonton resident. If you’re driving west, Edson has the most draconian enforcement I’ve ever seen. I got a ticket for 51 and another for 52 in the 50. They also have multiple points on the same day. One guy I know got four tickets on a trip, two on the way out, two on the way home.

And those signs about aircraft enforcement are serious. I now drive strictly at the speed limit between Rocky Mountain House and Nordegg on highway 11. They’re out for blood there and will ticket at only a few km/h over. I didn’t get caught, but know some folks that have.
