This would definitely be a nice alternative for a weekend track toy than the usual Miata.  I quite liked the BRZ I drove a few years ago but I just couldn't live with it day to day.  I'd probably be looking at ways to boost power, like a supercharger kit, if I was to buy one.  Not saying that it's not fun with the 200hp it comes stock but it'd definitely be more fun with 25-50% more power.

A guy I work with bought a 2014 BRZ not that long ago with low KMs for $17k, he just traded it in and they gave him $15k and it had only 30k on it.  :o

Traded his BRZ and his S60 T6 for a 2017 S60 Polestar.

From a reliability standpoint are these more like a Toyota or a Subaru?  Headgaskets being the major concern.

A gently used BRZ is a definite contender for my fun car in a few years.  Back seat just big enough that I can put the kids back there...by that time they will be out of the big child seats and into booster seats.

Unless you and your significant other are especially short the back seat will not fit your kids.  When I test drove the BRZ I laughed out loud when the back of the front seats literally touched the front of the back seats when adjusted for my height, and I'm not especially tall at 5"11.  Definitely a place to put a bag or fold down the seats to hold larger objects (like a set of track tires and rims), but definitely not a place I'd put a human who has legs.

Yeah, I'm your height so that might not work.  Seems like this is a bit smaller than the 128i I used to have.  I'd like something that size again.

When I got my Porsche 4yrs ago, my boys were 11 & 8, and they could fit in the back seats relatively easily, even behind the driver's seat which was adjusted for me at 5'11"... the BRZ is more cramped in the back though I found.

The best part of the FR-S SHB and I looked at was watching SHB get in and out.  ;D

The car itself was a tonne of fun.

Definitely one of the most fun cars to drive released in the last 20 years that your average gear head could afford. Always liked the Miata minus the stupid tent stuck on top, this is a hardtop Miata...with a bit more power.
Lighten up Francis.....

My friend had an FRS for a little while. I warned him it would be hard with a kid, he said it'd be ok. He has a Mazda CX-9 now. lol.

From my experience, teenagers tend to complain less about lack of space. They'll happily occupy that cramped back row if it means having their own space.

Thats what this car is for, you and missus, the crotch goblins can stay home every now and then. Besides, thats what the hatch is for....and you can hardly hear them whining and crying over the excellent stereo.

Dad was strongly considering one of these when they came out, and we tested it.  It's a fantastic car, I'd love to own one.  Buying used would be perfect as when you get the itch for more power, presto, you can add it.  The aftermarket support is amazing.

I noticed that the Subaru Ascent has a turbo FA24 engine, making 260 hp and 277 ft-lb of torque. The BRZ engine is an FA20.

just sold a used one... seemed too expensive for what it was, but we had people looking at it constantly... the back seat, as mentioned, was near useless. the front seats were making contact with the base of the back seats. not sure if it would be even possible to use in all honesty. my jag has more room.

looks stylish and feels fun.. I definitely get it. and obviously the market does as well.

Sat in one at the car show, and if while I didn't feel 100 years old getting in, sure felt that way getting out.

I honestly didn't think these even had a back seat.  :P. They look really good but that flat four doesn't interest me in the least.

This car has a wickedly good chassis.  We only ripped a few overpass ramps, but damn, it's superbly balanced and amazingly playful.  In this day and age of lawyers, I was shocked at how playful the chassis is.  The 200hp is fine, lots of fun, but yeah, the car can handle a lot more with little/no mods, which is why people feel it's underpowered.

The shifter was great, the brake feel great, the steering precise and quick.  The rear seats are laughable, but the cargo room is actually pretty good.  Road tripping would be a lot of fun in the car if you went from good road to good road and stayed off the Interstate-style roads.

Haha I went with my siblings to an auto show, sat in the back of one, head pressed against the rear window, looking up and saying "hey this car has a rear sunroof!"  ;D

I loved driving my buddies FR-S....just a fun car to rip around in. Like John said, fun to drive from here to Vancouver, not so much to Winnipeg.
