The 1.4L is going into the 2019 Golf/Golf SportWagon now as well for the FWD models.

That's too bad but it was inevitable. Good that the 4motion models still get the 1.8T.

Is the 1.4L that much cheaper to produce/fuel efficient to justify taking the excellent 1.8T out of the FWD Golf models.  I'd be fine with VW offering some kind of BlueMotion trim level that focused fully on fuel economy but having that 1.8T engine standard on all Golf models was a big selling feature to me, downsizing to a smaller and less powerful engine just makes it another compact car.

I think the performance is still quite good with the 1.4T though. It probably isn't too much of a compromise for most buyers in this class.

Fuel econ ratings with the 1.8T golf are fairly poor compared to competition.  The 1.4T will likely have the ratings at 30/40 mpg in USA which is what all cars in this class hover around.

edit: Golf right now is 24/33 while the jetta is 30/40.  So yeah I'm sure that's why the switch to 1.4T and 8 speed auto.

I like it.  Simple design, nothing flashy.  Well, except the wheels.  Don't like them.

Does it look to you guys that it's missing an engine cover?  There appears to be a mounting point right between cylinders 2 and 3.

VW decided to not include them in the Jetta.  That's one of the cost saving measures on this gen.

I usually like to see der motor, but this one isn't particularly attractive.
