I wonder if the NSX is the kind of car that will endear itself to you the more you own it.

Sort of in the same way the original NSX wasn't the best looking or the fastest but it was very well engineered and would be a reliable runner.  Granted most cars are better built than an early '90's Ferrari, but there would be something gratifying in having a near hyper-car that you can daily drive without worrying about it.

I'm not spending that type of hypothetical coin in the hope that a car will grow on me.  Nope.  No sir.

True but maybe if you drove one, you might change your mind. ;)

FTR, I'd buy the original NSX before most/all super cars.

...With this amount of money to spend on a high performance toy, I can't for the life of me see this car landing in my driveway .

 :iagree:

And yet, it still doesn't make it bad car either.   It's a hell of performance machine and can rightly serve as a halo vehicle for Acura.   Lord knows they badly need one.
it kinda does, as with this segment feeling like you are 10 again, working with nostalgia for performance machines of yore, or buying that bedroom poster in real life - ie desirability - is an essential element to the success of a supercar. The NSX is way down on just about everyone's list of "I want one" compared to its competition. And those that do want it, usually need to qualify or defend the statement because it is not immediately obvious as to why you would want one vs a Lambo, Ferrari, McLaren, etc. In that, it is a failure.

Well...for one...it's generally cheaper than a Lambo, Ferrari or McLaren.   A more apt comparison is maybe a higher end 911 or R8 no?

And when you're 10 I'm not sure R&T reviews for "driving feel" really mattered.  It was more how it looked and how cool the general marketing of the vehicle was.   I think the NSX looks pretty darn cool.  And it will claim some pretty amazing performance numbers.  That seems to me all Acura really needs to use it as a halo car.   Whether or not many people buy one seems less important.   I doubt they're counting on moving the needle vs the established marques.

I had a Countach poster on my wall like a lot of other boys in the 80s.  And yet if I were an adult in that timeframe, there's likely no way I would desire a Lambo...just as I don't today.   I'd much prefer a Ferrari or Porsche or whatever.   But none of that mattered much.   The Countach looked amazing.

I'd envision the crowd tuning Civics (or whatever Honda/Acura is offering) would happily lust for an NSX as the ultimate in their brand.

No, not a bad car, but if you were looking for a $200,000 sports car toy, would you pick the NSX over a 911 Turbo S, R8 or McLaren 570S -- all of which are comparable in price?

There was an NSX at the dealership here for months. It might still be there, I'm not sure. It looked pretty cool, but I'm really not sure if I'd be swayed to pick it over an R8, for instance.
speaking of the R8...there is a limited edition available, called the R8 RWS, which is a limited edition (999 available globally) rear wheel drive version...$163k...you could buy that unit, and have over $60k in the bank...or what the heck, use the savings and spend it on an RS3 for the winter.  ;D

Me too.  I love it.  It's slow by modern standards, but it's a classic.  It's aged superbly.  I actually like it better than when it was new.

Possible? Yes.  Probable? No.  But my point was that there is no way I would spend that kind of money on a car that I hoped I might like better in the future than I did at the time of purchase.  Come to think of it - that's just as true for me for any car purchase as a hypothetical exotic toy purchase.

By the way, I didn't mean to imply you'd be meh about it and learn to love it.  I get that you aren't all hot and bothered about it, but I could see it being lusted after and only after living with it do you truly appreciate it.  Vs say a Ferrari with its odd ergonomics that could start to get annoying over time.

In a way, every car goes through that sort of a transformation of opinion, for better or worse.

Indeed.  (full review coming on that R8 RWS soon).   ;)

No, no aaaand no.  Which isn't to say that the NSX sucks - it just doesn't fill me with WANT.

The very first thing I'd do if I came into a lot of money would be order a 911 GT3 with a manual transmission.  I don't care if I had so much money I could buy ten Chirons - the GT3 to me is the ultimate "exotic" car.  It's hella fast, brutally raw, comes with three pedals, and is built to a very high standard in terms of actually driving the car.  No, I have changed my mind.  With the impending demise of the manual trans cars, I'd buy TWO GT3s - that way I'd be sure I'd always have one.

I'm with you 100%. And it would be fun to have two GT3s – get a normal one and a Touring.

the way those cars end up changing in value of time, enjoy the first one, garage queen the second...in 30 years, sell the garage queen for $1 million and you end up with a free Porsche and lots of money.

I'd get the same car...with a PDK. Nearly 10k RPMs is bonkers sounding...
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...
