as an object of desire I totally agree: better on paper does not necessarily mean a better sports/supercar. Going fast is not everything, it is the sensation along the way - the sound, the feeling. Having the cheat code and flying around with computers aiding your every move, to me, would get old pretty quick. An amazing engineering feat, yes, and reliable as the day is long...but for me, I would opt for a more imperfect, and probably slower, driving machine from one of its competitors

How many will have the new NSX on their "must have one day" list? I wager very few. While a 458/488 GTB or Huracan will have many pining for "one day..."
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

I was a fan of the original NSX, this one is a "meh" for me. Great looking car & a great performing one as well, but it doesn't do much for me. And further to Chaos' point above, when I was in Vegas & went to the track... I drove the 488 GTB over this  :P

Also, no offense to Jeff, but should've got Wing to do this test as he has more track experience and can put up some seriously quick lap times  ;)

Agreed.  The old one is still high on my want list, though.

I have to agree, the original NSX is still the one I'd want over this one.  I know this NSX is ALOT faster and more capable in all areas but it just doesn't do anything for me.  Plus I feel like they made it a bit too costly to be a true successor to the original.  Also when looking through the pictures I noticed it doesn't have a volume nob so it'll be a hard pass.   :rofl2:

I think I would probably have more fun in a Camaro 1LE or GT350R.

I agree, but not at the crazy prices now.  The smart thing would have been to buy 5 years ago, enjoy it all that time, and sell now for a profit!

one of those rare moments where the designer is far better looking than the car they designed.

the original NSX had reasonable performance, solid reliability, great looks, and was also at a somewhat attainable price...this one is priced in supercar territory...pass...in fact, i'd rather have a 911 Carerra 4 for half this money ($112k).

Man, lots of bagging on the NSX.

I think it looks great and would take it every time over the equivalent Ferrari.  But, at the end of the day the 911 owns my heart.

As I recall, the original NSX cost about $80k, 30 years ago. With inflation I think that puts us right around $160K.

I agree that as a group the 90's super cars that the NSX competed with seemed to be more desireable ... not sure why, maybe it's a mechanical/analog/design thing. I think among current cars, the Corvette has the most appeal (ignoring the sheetmetal, which I'm not a fan of ) and the Audi R8 is rolling sculpture.

I remember when it won R&T performance car of the year. And they said the opposite of what's being said here..fun, engaging, etc.

And one of the reviewers was Baruth...who's pretty damn critical in a 918 vs NSX comparo in the foothills of Ohio. Same....loved it.

It seems like all you need is one dingus with an axe to grind to say it's not "engaging" or similar and it gets the label...much like what happened to the GT-R.

"For the first time in a hybrid automobile of any price or capability, technology has been placed firmly in the service of emotional involvement rather than in place of it. The hardware, of course, is first-rate and duly compliant with all possible requirements for environmental and social relevance, but the genius of the NSX is entirely human in nature. It was tireless development by human beings that made this very complicated and capable supercar dive for the apex with joy and bully its way to the corner exit with unfettered exuberance. Everything about the car—from the way in which the brake-by-wire pedal lengthens its travel when the brakes are hot to the manner in which the midmounted V6 permits itself a bit of the ol' barbaric yawp when it's winding out in fourth gear—is intended to enhance the driver's involvement.

Able to compete on level ground with the absolute cream of the conventional crop, the NSX also represents a brilliant basis for the ongoing development–indeed, the ongoing existence–of the performance automobile. To drive it for 10 laps on track is to permanently shed any worries that the next generation of supercars will be overpowered takes on a Prius; to experience it on a fast road is to be reassured that tomorrow's technology will be accessible and enjoyable. For that achievement alone, the NSX deserves to be our PCOTY, but the fact that it does it all so well, right now, places it beyond argument. The NSX works, but it also knows how to play. Confident and capable, thrilling on both road and track, the Acura NSX is our 2017 Performance Car of the Year."

i'm certain it is a great car, just not what i'd buy if i were shopping in that supercar money bracket.
