After a year long car hunt that you can read about here:
https://www.autos.ca/forum/index.php?topic=99268.0a 2018 Honda CR-V Touring has been added to the stable. The colour is Obsidian Blue Pearl. Pictures are attached.
Picked it up on Wednesday in Steinbach, which is approximately 60km outside Winnipeg. Great dealer. Very kind, friendly and courteous. The GM heard my wife and I talking about who should drive the CR-V back to town (I was asking her to drive it and she was asking me to). The GM offers to have the Golf driven back for us so we could both drive back in the CR-V!
To preface my initial thoughts - this is a boring freaking vehicle. I have never felt so blah about a vehicle I just bought. I was even more excited about the Tata Indica in India. However, it is going to meet our needs perfectly for the next several years.
More thoughts will follow, but after 2 days, here are my likes/dislikes:
Likes:- The Tech! This thing is loaded to the gills. Only tech I can think of that it doesn't have is a HUD and a 360 degree camera. It has every other safety and infotainment tech I can think of right now. Great subwoofer so I can feel the bass when I crush my sporty car dreams.
- Lots and lots of storage. Feels like the ultimate road trip vehicle for our needs. Lots of nooks and crannies so I can tuck away my sporty car dreams.
- The interior isnt gorgeous, but does feel premium. Seats are comfortable. Layout of the dash (except for the shifter) is great. And the interior space is excellent for all 5 passengers.
- Being able to drop the rear seats from the trunk. The drop down trunk floor so you can either have it flat or sunken is a nice touch.
- Panoramic sunroof is brilliant! Can look up at the sky dreaming about a sportier car.
- I think it is the best looking CR-V so far, and second best in the segment after the CX-5. Particularly like the jeweled LEDs. Brightens up the road really well so I can see where I'm going and specifically run over my sporty car dreams.
Dislikes:- The CVT will take some getting used to. Hope the promised stellar fuel economy helps.
- I've always thought the CR-V's gear shifter has been in an odd spot.
- Infotainment isn't the snappiest. Already there have been an instance or two where I click something and then there is a pause so I think "it didnt take" so i click again only for it to now go two menus deep. Thankfully, it works much better when AA or ACP is hooked up, which is what we will be using most of the time.
Bad Juju because of the number on the license plate (mark of the beast, you see
). And Mr. White because it is Blue (Our other car is a white Golf, which my wife christened "Blu" after the Bombers).
