well then screw it, all the Miata owners better buy F350 duallies or they are going to die. Those wont get blown over on a windy day...
If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

I don't think a Miata and some cheap, Korean penalty shitbox are quite the same thing.
Lighten up Francis.....

Lots of cars are sensitive to crosswinds.  Yes, it’s small and light, but my Dad’s ‘81 Volvo 240 felt like a sail at times.  A Honda Fit or Toyota Echo of that vintage would have been equally susceptible to such a situation...
I'd rather be car-poor than house-poor...

You're right.  My NA Miata is about 1% as safe.  It's maybe, just maybe slightly safer than a motorcycle.  And I don't care in the slightest.

Given it’s low slung profile, the Miata isn’t gonna be affected by crosswinds, which was the issue here.

This situation has roughly zero to do with the size of the car.

the title was "small cars, no thanks" so I assumed...

I guess it is not an issue of the car being small, but it being lightweight on garbage suspension, garbage and narrow tires, a tall body with narrow track...

The ‘gust of wind’ comment came fom the driver who caused the accident.  Either she made it up as an excuse to hide that she was most-likely texting, or she reacted incompetently to the ‘gust of wind.’  Also, we have no idea about the state of the tires, suspension, steering, etc.  If these GM-Daewoo things were inherently dangerous in cross winds, we would have had more stories like this.

Who remembers real VW Bugs in a crosswind?    I do even though I never owned one. Just driving behind one in windy conditions seemed to reinforce that they were just unsafe.

15 passenger Econoline.  In Newfoundland.  On a highway that hugs the east coast of the Avalon Peninsula.

Oh yeah. I would drive from TO to Windsor and back multiple times in one. Surprised I survived.

My wife’s Forester is far more sensitive to crosswinds than my Outback was or my Explorer is.

Traditional wisdom has it that heavier cars are less susceptible to crosswinds , well traditional wisdom is no wisdom at all. I had 1972 Fiat 128 - a fwd box that was about 2000 lbs wet. It was one of the most stable car in a crosswind that I’ve ever driven ( also one of the most unreliable as well). In 60 - 100 kph crosswinds (Newfoundland after all )  I could pass or be passed by a semi and the car was as if on rails. No explanation but since that time I no longer accept that weight or size is THE determining factor.

A first gen Toyota Tercel was the worst car I've ever driven in a crosswind.  Downright scary!  The bicycle tires didn't help.

There were very few FIATs in Newfoundland in those days.  One of my classmates’ parents had a ‘74 or so 128 two door in olive.  One of my closest friends’ parents had a ‘74 or so 131 4-door in olive green, and a navy blue late ‘60s 124 coupe.  We all lived in Cowan Heights in St. John’s.

"The driver and her dog were not injured."

Nuff said right there...Poofy was probably on her lap - distracted driving.  Cousin got a $600 fine for having his wiener wee little dog on his lap.

The E46 330xi I had was the most stable car in winds.   It was balanced well f/r and probably had good aero judging by how quiet it was inside.
