We're fortunate that we have so many options of good, solid vehicles (even if they're a sea of CUVs).  It all comes down to preference and budget.  It's a good time to be a carbuyer (with >$50k, unfortunately :'()

Man, with all these CUV's I'm thoroughly confused... I guess this slots between the X1 & X3? What else is in it's class? Blurred lines... blurred lines....

A drive of both could change my mind, but based on what I've seen I'd take an XC40 over the X2

:censor: no - have you been in the XC40?  What a disappointment.  I'm not sure what reviewers were smoking, I thought it was a cheapo POS with some nice ideas.

The X2 has a proper interior, even if it lacks a removable garbage bin.

That's disappointing to hear, I haven't seen it, but it looks good in pics

i haven't seen it, but pretty much every review i've watched has been exceptional...several even mention things like "Best Compact SUV. Period".

The X2 has a little precense on the road vs the blobish, cuv of the X1.  The ronundel on the c-pillar makes sure everyone knows what it is as you go by.

The XC40 looks to be the won to beat as the lease deals will determine the sales winner.

7.2 inches of rip-roaring ground clearance! What an SUV! Er, excuse me, hatchback on mini-stilts. And a snip at a mere $57K plus 15% HST for a  thrusting 227 hp. Add in $100 per annum for Apple Car Play, when more than half of people use Android phones, and I'd have to say it's the ultimate blow-dry crossover for poseurs.

So, I'm sold! Can I pay with Canadian Tire money? I've been collecting since 1967.

I had my BMW at the dealer to address a couple recalls. Got a BMW X2 as a loaner for the day. I was pretty excited at the chance to give this thing a try as it was a vehicle I would have thought I might consider one day. Only put about 50 Kms on it while I had it. Here are my impressions.

It had this horrible reddy / orange interior just like in attached picture. It was hideous. How anyone would want this color interior is beyond me.

I do not care for the BMW emblem on C pillars.

The person you wrote this test drive article stated. The 2018 BMW X2 I’m in is utterly unperturbed by the horrible road surface, there’s very little suspension noise, very little vibration, and we’re gliding over a road that would rattle my aging truck into oblivion. I have to completely disagree. I found this little CUV road like a buck board. I found the ride punishing and rough. The road impacts were enough to loosen my fillings.

I was also surprised at how much road noise there was. I found at highway speed the tires noise was very high. This was surprising in a CUV that would set you back over $55K.

The visibility out the back was terrible. Small rear window and small mirror made it feel like you were looking out a peephole. The windows were heavily tinted so that made matters even worse. I like to see what is going on around me. I found this to be the biggest deal breaker of them all.

Powertrain worked well. Felt very powerful and peppy. Shifts were good and always found right gear. If I were to keep it I would defeat the start / stop function. That drove me nuts.

I get how a CUV like this can be attractive to some. The size would suit my needs. But I suspect in the end the bigger X1 might better suit my needs. The attraction of the X2 is supposed to be it sleek sporty design. I just do not find the design differences appealing enough to compromise on size, visibility and ride.

If you want more in life you have to make an effort.

That's the same notion I got from all online reviews I've read and seen. A much stiffer ride compared to the X1. Poor visibility.
I saw one on 417 about a month ago. and the proportions seemed off to my eye. Too much $$ for a fashion statement.

I like that interior colour.

I am honestly shocked anyone would like it. :o Different strokes for different folks I guess. I guess we would all be driving the same car if we agreed on everything.

I drove the X2 in California earlier this year and was impressed with the ride of it (and I even took it up a rocky access road).  Then the X1 I reviewed a month or two back here rode like it had concrete for a suspension and I started really second-guessing myself with that X2 until I saw Jacob's review.  *shrug*

I've been driving a lot of crossovers and SUVs lately, and they can be really, really bad for rear 3/4 vis.  This one isn't too bad by comparison.

And in other news, No-san was completely wrong about the XC40.  It's great (for a compact SUV).

Ok, I had to bite and took a look at the local German configurator to see the colour palette. The yellow paint job and red interior just don't do it for me- too hard on the eyes

I was really put off at how the Germans have found new ways to nickel-and-dime. 50€ for a larger fuel tank ? Another 50 € for a Mobility patch kit or 110€ for a spare ? So if I choose neither, I'm automatically stranded with a flat ?  >:( . 300€ for tinted windows ? Then again, I'm charged 3,10 € for a glass of water at restaurants in Germany, so......

I built a sDrive18i (1,5 litre 140PS) which starts at 34 k€ but adding a moonroof, cruise control, PDC, LED headlamps, and other small sundry items like paint and heated steering wheel added 6k to the price. Absurdly expensive for a fashion item.

Interestingly, this engine is offered with a 7-speed DCT (2 100€ option) instead of the 8-speed automatic.

I wonder if the hard ride is a function of wheel/suspension equipment? Something like 17" and standard suspension shouldn't be too hard......
