And now, the time has come ...
« on: May 28, 2018, 04:42:21 pm »
Well, after almost 15 years of ownership (the last 3 spent mulling and musing about new cars) I done did it.

In about 8 weeks or so, I hope to take possession of a new 2018 quartz blue Crosstrek.  I chose the Sport with Eyesight model.

Test drive was good and told me everything I needed to know along with my research online.  The acceleration was quite good, with none of what I was fearing based on all the reviews.  Quiet cabin and well laid out controls.

Less cargo room than I have currently but that would be true for any of the vehicles in that class.  Since downsizing was what I wanted, such consequences came with the territory.

Pics to follow in due course.

Congratulations, man!

I was pretty happy with our 2013. Lady O says its still chugging along fine with close to 90k kms on it.

I will do my best to provide.

They did give me one little pause, though.  Subaru is gearing up for the 2019 models and the blue colour has been discontinued in favour of another.  What that means is that if the car hasn’t already been made in that colour, it’s not going to be made at all.

My (very distant) second choice is the black, as none of the other colours did it for me.

The 2019 blue will be a very dark blue that is currently on the Outback.  I call it midnight blue.

I'm not sold on orange, but my friend just bought a blue Crosstrek and it looks good.
colour choices are always subjective...personally, i like the orange ones. :)

I like looking at other people's orange cars, but I don't think I could live with it as a DD. It would draw too much attention.

Let us not forget that this man stretched a 2003 Kia out to 15 years.
Can we get a retrospective on that? :)

Congratulations on the new ride.

Congratulations on the new ride.

Thanks all.  :)

The Sorento is still running and will be traded in as a fully functional car, with only a bit of TLC needed on bits here and there:
-  First day with the car was August 15, 2003.
-  ABS light is on.  The ABS sensor is either gone or more likely a loose connection under or near the driver's seat based on observation.
-  The sun roof needs some work but it functions.
-  Rust around the rear wheel wells, on the hatch and on the body near the driver's door.  Blame that last one on winter run-off from my boots that I couldn't remove before entering.
-  Fuel efficiency has gone down but some of that can be blamed on my tire choice.  Went from a Michelin H rated tire to a Yokohama S rated set for all seasons.
-  Some centre console lights are out.  Will need a new board as they are LED based or so it seems.
-  Rear window struts (yes, it can open independently of the rear hatch) are shot.
-  One fender bender when an oncoming driver decided to beat the yellow light and turn into me (she was turning left - I was going straight).  $1800 and all covered.

Trips:
-  A few to PEI
-  One to Maine
-  Several around Quebec and Ontario
-  Several to Vermont, New York, New Hampshire, Massachusetts.

And that's about it.
