I can imagine how this went;

"Did you get a Toyota yet?"
"No."
"Did you get a Toyota yet?"
"No."

"ALRIGHT! I'LL GET A DAMNED TOYOTA!"

 ;D

:rofl2: And that was just the final day after 10 years of doing this every single day.

At 90!? Lol...no wonder I’m always annoyed at Corolla drivers!

My last rental Corolla barely got 9...

Well if the speed limit is 80 or 90...

Congrats to her!  The Corolla should be great for her needs and you won't twitch so much when you see the Dodge in their driveway!  Win win!

On a related-ish note:

My daughter-in-law is convinced she wants a hybrid to replace her 6 yr old Elantra.
Why?  Because they do quite a bit of highway driving to a cottage almost every weekend.

Asks me which one should I get?  Told her highway driving ain't the strength of a hybrid.  Corolla would be cheaper and would probably match a hybrid's mileage (or even beat?) on the highway.  Don't be a dumba$$.
Will she listen??

rrocket - can you send her a barrage of "Get a Corolla" texts now that you're done with your parents?   ;D

I think mileage is better with a hybrid on the highway
With our Prius , I got 3.8 l/100km on the highway

But the cost of a new hybrid will take forever to recoup vs just driving the Elantra.  Unless she wants out of it for other reasons.

Why bring cost into the equation
It is better to spend an extra $20,000 in new car cost to save 0.5 l/100km  ;D

A Corolla ECO gets low to mid 4s on the highway, barely using more fuel than a hybrid.  We went on a trip with our friend that have the ECO model and even driving 110-125, it was in the 4s.

The only hybrid I'd consider (buying new) to actually save money is the Prius C.  The Corolla still undercuts it by a decent amount price-wise though.  The Corolla is also a very well equipped car that is roomy and can carry four people handily.

I sent him a list of cars to check out initially. It included cars for Toyota, Honda, KIA and Hyundai.

Then a list of wagons after he asked.

That was it. No badgering or tainting of the process.

New job - my commute is 91km one way (fortunately, my dad's place is only 8km away :P).  I estimate 35,000km driven annually now.  Average in the Mazda 3 (measured by hand since I don't have a computer readout) is typically 7.6L/100km in pure highway driving.  Imagine shaving 3L/100km off that...

1,050L of fuel saved each year, which at the current ~$1.299 = $1,363.95 saved per year.

I'm not trading up since my Mazda has 29,300km at the moment, but if I were looking to upgrade, Mazda's unlimited mileage warranty would be a huge factor to me, as would fuel economy afforded by a Prius, Volt, or Corolla LE Eco.

How often do you drive on the highway though? 80% of my kms are in the city where a hybrid would still see fuel consumption in the 4s while gas only vehicles would consume almost double the fuel.

Our Corolla sees mostly city driving, so a hybrid would benefit us, but the payback is still really long thanks to the price difference.  The Prius C makes the most sense.

I'm hoping to replace the Corolla with an EV, actually.  Or, based on how reliable it's been, we might not ever have to replace it!

I leave early in the morning, and 407... Pretty much 95% Highway without stop and go.  A slight slowdown at Trafalgar Road due to the stupid "Toronto" Premium Outlets being built right where the 401/407 merge.
