^^ And that's what really pisses me off. I always make a point of bringing in my loose rims and having them mount the tires without touching my car. That's what I did in the fall when I bought the WS90s, but I'm not about to pull the wheels off now and put the summers back on for a day. The rims are old, so I'm not too worried about scratches on those.

I'm sure I'll be cursing in the spring when I try to take to take the rims off and they've been torqued to like 900 lb*ft.  >:(  :P

I had Canadian Tire mount the winters for the Highlander and they are just a little bit off.  Fine at 100, annoying at 110, fine-ish at 120.   I don't do many highway trips but I am gonna get them to redo them.

May as well mention that I had to take the Yukon back to Kal-Tire for a rebalance as well. That was a weird one - seemed to be related more to road conditions than speed. Mostly they were fine, but every now and then something would set them off and I'd get a nasty shimmy in the steering. It didn't happen too often, so I did live with that for the whole winter.

Took them back this fall for a rebalance (again, brought them in loose in the back of the truck  :) ) and Kal-tire was awesome. Talked to the tech who worked on them, and he said it took a couple tries to get them right. He also said he took some time to pry all the rocks out of the tread, just to be sure.

It was a bit of a PITA to have to go back, but the service was excellent. And the tires have been great so far.

Maybe it's time to change the thread title to "sucks for tires"?  ;)

Anyway, a few years back I installed X-Ice 3s at HWY7/weston Costco once (brought my rims) and everything went fairly well but the balance was off above 100km/h. I didn't have time to go back and forth so next year I went to my tire indie and of course the balance was off. Not terribly so, but I guess within the quick-lube-brakes-and-tires usual margin of error.
So this time around when I needed to replace two worn out tires, I ended up buying them at Crappy (they had 10%off, so better than costco) and doing them at the same tire shop for 20 bucks a piece. Spot on as always.

I've never had to return to Costco for a rebalance, and thank gawd for that, because HOLY HELL are they busy now during "snow tire season."  I wonder what percentage of the Canadian tire market Costco has taken over.

I was thinking “snow tire season” is over now, but I guess not everyone buys their winter tires in September, like I do. ???  ;D

Anyway, they’ve got that online appointment tool now, which is handy. I could have booked myself in tomorrow, but chose Tuesday morning instead. Hopefully I get in and out in a reasonable amount of time. Guess we’ll see.  :-\

I sold the WS-80s from the Corolla just the other day.  Put them on Kijiji and sold them in a couple of hours.  People for sure are still shopping for snow tires.

I got my new Xi3 tires put on yesterday at Costco. It took about a week after the tires arrived before I could book an appointment, but when I went in for my 6.30 pm there was no one else there.

Done in 3/4 hr, easy peasy

Well, that was painless. Showed up at 9:00 for my appointment and I was the only one there. Car went in right away and I had it back at 9:30.

Talked to the tech afterwards and he was all “Uh, so what was the problem?” I told him that, yeah, it felt pretty good, but started to shake at 120 km/h. He chuckled and said I’m not supposed to drive that fast anyway.  ;D

He said the worst tire was on the back, and only out an ounce. Two more were out 1/2 an ounce, and front left was perfect. He said he got them all perfect now, and so far it seems much better. Snuck it up to 130 km/h on Crowchild Trail this morning and I felt nothing.

Had a similar experience with Pirelli's Winter Ice FR's I bought for the XC40 this year. At first I thought they were rough and seemed out of round and/or imbalanced. The one I bought a year ago for the XC60 were butter smooth from day 1.

After 800-1000 km they seemed to have settled. Drove the XC40 this morning and all the roughness and vibration was one. Drove as smoothly as my V60 on X-ICE 3's. So winter tires need a break-in period now?

Perhaps Pirelli's do. I have sworn off that brand for autos but that is another story.

I notice the new BFGs on my Frontier are getting a little smoother with each drive.  They were noticeably louder than the stock tires.

In the same family I think BFG is the loud outspoken brother while Michelin is the reserved quiet one. Just different.

I bought some Michelins for the Ridgeline. I tried to give locals a chance but no one was within $150. Ordered online, shop called 5 days later, appointment made and tires installed on loose wheels. Painless. Other than perhaps a little too much weight (enough time determining tire and wheel heavy spots?) used I am happy (Not on truck yet).

Here is the kicker. Three weeks later I see an ad for a Costco $70 in house rebate on purchases of 4 Michelins. Emailed customer service and had the rebate credited to my credit card the next day. Painless.

Now $220 cheaper than local.

Wow, this sounds really awesome! I have to try this as well :D

Looking back I probably should have done the same and saved myself some grief.  I ordered a wheel and tire package from Costco and the wheels didn't fit, so they had to come off and i was left scrambling for a set of wheels at the last minute.  Ended up getting a set of Fast wheels from the dealer and they were only a few bucks more than the ones i ordered from Costco.  By that time the selection was limited but they looked a lot better that the cheap looking things I got from Costco.

I also find their selection tool to be frustrating.  Looks like they only carry one winter tire that will fit my Frontier but I'll need to go to a 17" instead of the OEM 16". Think I'll look elsewhere this time.
