I never looked to see what kind of tires are on there.  It's some sort of all-season, 'all-terrain' tire, but they are definitely more street biased than All Terrain biased.

GBA, I guess it depends on how much driving you do in the winter.

Regardless of remaining tread I'd want to change out the tires after 5-6 years.  So if you do less than 10k per winter I'd go Blizzaks.

I am blown away with the DM-V2s.  Driving on snow covered roads is like bare pavement.  And they handle well and are dead quiet.

I am sure the X-Ices will be basically the same, though based on the tread I would expect them to have slightly worse snow traction.

Oh the Latitudes are back. Odd.

For a heavy SUV I would hold out for the DMV2s. So far they have been very impressive on the LR4.

I do want the DM-V2s, I’m just wondering if I should get them before they sell out or just wait for the rebate.

^^We do less than 10k kms in the winter.  Deep Snow performance still means something to me.  I want to be far and away the best truck on the road when we have a snowstorm.  I think I'll stick with the Blizzaks.

PMC Tire has a $50 MIR on right now for Blizzaks.  Without the rebate, they are only about $20 more delivered to your door, mounted and balanced (assuming you buy wheels, too).

That seems to be the trade-off between the Blizzak's and X-Ice.  Blizzaks better in deeper snow,  X-ice better in icy conditions.
The Blizzaks are awesome in the snow, both on our old Crosstrek and the current CX-5

Being a tire nerd is fun!

My wo-workers are asking why I'm bothering to put winter tires on (most of them don't even do winters on their FWD cars) a 4x4 Truck.  I have to explain to them that I'll have to buy tires at some point, when the OEM tires wear out.  So I can spend the money now, double the life of my OEM tires, and have great winter performance,  or I can not spend the money now, and spend it in 3 years anyway once the OEM's are worn out.

May as well spend the money in advance and get superior winter traction, eh?

I've always wondered to what extent that argument is true.

I figure that AS tires wear significantly less in cold temperatures so buying winters isn't really a 1:1 savings.

It's $207 a tire on PMC vs. $180 at Costco. I'm mounting on the stock wheels.

The X-Ice is still good in snow and Blizzaks is still good on ice. I had tires that were good in deep snow on the Mazda 3, the problem was when it got deep enough, my Mazda 3 high sided on everything, so better to wait for the snow plows to come through leaving a nice sheet of ice to drive on. For the Sequoia, the expectation will be for better snow traction.

I had to really push at both my last jobs to get winter tires on our fleet pickups (but they have 4X4!).

At the first one they agreed to put them on one as a test, and realized pretty fast a) how much they help with braking on a heavy truck, and b) how much they make 2WD on a pickup suck less. So they put them on the fleet

At this job I made the point that if safety is supposed to be a priority, why would you skip on something so obvious? After one truck slid into the ditch and another got wrote off on black ice they switched.

From Costco? Buy some now, take delivery and wait until rebate day starts. Then either return them and get the rebate or make them apply rebate to your tires.

Yeah, doesn’t Costco have a price protection policy?  I’m sure they do, my missus bought something that went on sale a couple weeks later. She took the receipt in, and they gave her the sale price.

A few years back, Costco had the manufacturers $70 rebate, plus there was a much shorter time period $30 one. I had to order the tires, and missed the $30 one.

I spoke to the customer service folks, they noted that I’d been a continuous customer since the 1980s and gave me the $30 on the spot.

We’ve been Costco members for about 30 years and they’ve done a lot to earn that loyalty. Great service, easy returns, excellent pricing plus the fact that I see the same people there year in and out makes all the difference to me. Low staff turnover shows they treat their staff well, which is just as important to me as the rest of it.

WalMart?  What’s that?

Would price protection apply to rebates?

I could try what ktm525 noted. December 3 is only 13 days away.

Wow! You must be one of their first members.

I was 5 years old.

STFU

I remember when Costco (Price Club) only gave memberships to business owners.

There was no Costco locally for many, many years.  But my dad had membership in the USA because there was one right down the street from his bro.  And you could put "employees" on the car also.  So I'm guessing I was about 10 when I became a member.    :rofl2:
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Back in the day you could join Costco only if you were a member of certain groups like government employees, union members and so on. Seems weird now, but that's the way it was. It still ran like the coop from its origin. The missus started teaching in the fall of 1988 and the first thing we did was take her pay stub to Costco and got a membership.

I remember thinking "I should put together every penny I can and buy stock in this, it's going to explode and never stop exploding."

I didn't. Of course I didn't.

Was that the year it came to Canada?

Anyways, in 1988 stock price was $6.20 USD

Today $220. USD

So doing the math and with all the splits....you'd have started off with 161 shares if you invested $1000 USD.  With all the splits, you'd have 967 shares now..or $212,740.
