Got a set of Pirelli winters at Costco to replace the worn chinese crap that came with the daughter's Accent. Not much choice in 14"! These were about 100$ less than Blizzaks and came with 0.01$ install and 80$ cash card - so a bit less than 100$ per tire, installed and taxed.
Got to love cheap quality rubber.  I run Pirelli winter tires on my Golf R and love them.

Costco appears to have increased their installation price to $19.99 a tire, unless that’s only in Alberta. Makes the 1 cent install a much better deal.

nope, same price here...it used to $15...not a big deal, most places charge $20/tire anyway.

$80 is a screamin deal in Alberta.  A lot of shops charge $125 or more.

Canadian Tire here is $25/tire. My indie charges $30/tire.

Will Costco still mount tires that weren't purchased there?

I paid $80 plus weights and hst for mounting an older set of WS80s on steelies for my Civic. All in came to $108. Not bad for utilizing a good set of winters to last three or more winters.

got the X-IceIII tires installed on the Rio5 today...clear and sunny, so i can't report on their winter duties, but regular road manners where quite "normal", which i think is good for winter rubber.

Day to day, you can’t tell they’re winter tires. They’re so amazing on ice though.

Why exactly?

I thought the criticism of these tires is that they are not a great snow tire.  Is that old news?

Performance on ice. Yes it's not as strong in snow as the Blizzak but in urban areas where roads are usually clear and ice is the bigger culprit, X-Ice is awesome.

This will be my first year with Blizzak WS80 on my Matrix and my wife has Xi3 on her Mazda 3 so I can do a reasonable comparison. Mind you, WS80 was replaced with WS90.

I have the WS 80 on my Mazda 3, I am now on ther 3rd winter and maybe the last as they wear down fast. On my previous Mazda I had the XIce3 and they lasted me 5 winters.
I am going back to XIce as I personnaly dont find the WS80 as good. Actually I am kinda disappointed. The WS80 are noisier and don't handle as good as the XIce did in snow or ice, don't even need to mention dry and wet roads at the beginning and end of winter.

Maybe it's the car?  Because I LOVE my WS80s.  And find the handling to be more than acceptable on dry roads, they are H-Rated.   Granted I have never driven the Xice 3, but just looking a the tread I can't imagine they'd be better than the Blizzaks in the snow.

on my way to work this morning, i took the usual urban route, which has some rougher roads (still paved, of course)...my winter tires are -1 size, so are 195/55/16 instead of the 205/45/17 size the three seasons are...i can report that the difference in ride quality (softness) is substantial...the 0.6" inch increase in sidewall doesn't sound like much, but it rides so much smoother over the crappy roads that are so common around town (cracks in pavement, manhole covers that are not quite flush with road surface, etc)...makes me mad so many new cars put stupid large low profile tires on them...it's not that the standard tires are crap, but it's a small inexpensive car with a relatively simple suspension set up (torsion beam rear), equipped with the "Sport Suspension" (firmer ride), short wheelbase and the 45 series tires don't have much cushioning...makes me wish companies would focus a bit more on the nicer ride than squeezing every little tick in the figure eight test...you don't really need to please NormT and most journalists since they A) aren't the buying public and B) most of those specs are irrelevant the vast number of people buying the cars.

Our Corolla was unstoppable on the WS-80s. Edmonton had horrendous ice last winter thanks to freezing rain and those tires were phenomenal. The freezing rain was followed by five weeks of -25 and some of the poorest roads I’ve seen in the city since moving here.

I’m keen to see how the new 90s differ.  Can they be better?  I’d be amazed if they are.

When I was buying winters for the GTI 5 years ago, it came down to X-Ice3 or WS80. From what I read, X-Ice3 would be a bit better on bare/wet pavement, about the same on ice, not quite as good in deeper snow, and worse in slush. I went WS80 and was happy enough.

This time around, WS90s are brand new design, and X-Ice is what, 6-7 years old now? Didn’t even consider them.

Picked up the WS90s a couple weeks ago, but probably won’t put them on for at least another week. Curious to see how they perform, but I’m happy to keep my Michelin A/S 3 + on as long as possible.

Oh, and date of manufacture on the WS90s was week 24 of 2019, so fresh fresh.

i was happy with the WS60s that i just replaced (7 years old)...i would have bought either WS90s or X-IceIIIs, whichever was on sale...the Michelins were now (until the end of Dec) so i went with them...i've had them before on a previous car (X-IceII) and we have the X-IceIIIs on our Sorento and have been happy...i think these tires are actually quieter on the road than my all seasons...not a scientific test, but they seem a bit quieter (unless it's just because they ride a bit softer and my brain translates that to a quieter ride too?).

If they aren't great in snow, that's news to us. We live on the lake...so we get lake effect snow and due to the winds, deep snow.  Never an issue with traction in the deep stuff...as long as we have the appropriate ground clearance of course.

And we've used these almost exclusively on RWD cars.

We love the wear, traction in both snow/ice and also in non-snow/ice conditions (which, depending on where you live is a big thing).  They also feel far, far less "squishy" than other winter tires we've used (we've used WS in the past).

But we just love them on our RWD cars.  They even put down the power in the dry shockingly good on my IS-F.
