So, first FGC gremlin... My trunk isn't opening. Nor is the reverse camera popping out. I'm pretty sure I've said elsewhere on the forum I'd happily pay to fix the camera so that's being put to the test  ;D.

It MAY be my fault because i broke one of the watertight guides from the tailgate to the car, it wasn't enough to completely broken but I did wash the car the night before. I am going to give it a couple days to see if it dries out. However I don't think it's the harness because if I manually close the latch with the hatch open, the car thinks the trunk is closed so the system does seem to be working as intended. Other reports on the internet of latch not working post-car wash. Doing nothing might be ideal because I'm lazy.

If it doesn't fix itself, there are a few reports of a small pin out of place causes this issue; I'll have to disassemble and check.

Or maybe I should put in an order for a maverick.

Can't imagine it would be, it was well above zero the last couple days and we haven't had any precipitation. But who knows.

Yeah like Oliver said we've had a major thaw. Day 2 and it's still not working. I don't mind no camera as much, but no trunk defeats the purpose of a wagon  ;D

I'll give it a week and maybe find some time to take it apart after. Honestly I'm busy enough these days I've got half a mind to just pay someone to fix it.

original battery? what is the resting voltage?

Yes, original battery, but the car is only 4 years old and for half its life it was parked in a heated garage.. this year in a garage though not heated. I doubt it's the battery since the car cranks etc no problem. Funny enough I don't own a multimeter but I will borrow one tomorrow and maybe see what it is. I don't think it's the battery since I don't hear the motor actuate for me to open the trunk, as if it's not even triggering. Interesting theory though.

It's an easy place to start. Many weird electronic problems are affected by low voltage in these modern systems. 5 year battery replacement on a modern car is not out of the ordinary.

How are you opening the hatch now?  With the emergency cord?

Any sounds coming from the electrical motor contained within? or is every thing just dead.

First is to disassemble and test the connector plug.   The fact that the camera door is dead too spells electrical issue.

My battery was too low to start the car in the cold and my hatch mechanism worked fine.

How far out of the warranty are you?

Not really opening the trunk, it only happened yesterday. I can get the hatch open using the emergency release hence my testing that the sensor that checks whether the hatch is open or not still works. I don't know if it's the same harness that goes to the hatch/camera unit and latch or not, but I can't imagine it being separate since pushing on the emblem opens the latch; the emblem has to pop the same way for the camera to come out.

I'm 17500 km over but 4 years only happens next week or so.... pretty pretty close to 100000 km now. Can't see there being much "good will" since i bought the car in Ottawa and now i'm in NB.

The whole unit has an MSRP of $727 (lots of places to get it for between half and 3/4 that), but it looks like the camera is working fine so I'll have to try to fix it first.

Okay, let me be the one to say it, almost out of warranty (powertrain), it’s causing you issues, and the market for used cars is nuts.  All signs point to trading it in and getting something new, maybe the new GTI, Civic Si, etc?

The one good thing is it’s consistent so far.  Nothing worse than an issue that comes and goes and always goes when you take it to the dealer.  Do you get it serviced at the VW dealer here?  If so, they likely made more off you owning it than the selling dealer.

Just to make you feel better, the time on the head unit in my GLI randomly changes time every few weeks.  It is annoying as heck, but likely not worth the dealer to look into.  Got to love those FGC electronics.

Hahaha if I sell this car I'd put myself on the waitlist for a maverick or something electric and go car free for a year or two.  I don't need a car most of the time, it's a huge luxury that costs what, 10k/yr? The "sane" thing would be to get rid of the car entirely.

Actually Fredericton VW's service pricing is so out to lunch that I went to saint john a couple times. In between I did one oil change back in Ottawa because I was there visiting friends.

Fuse?
Something I'll check but I suspect the sensor for the latch is on the same circuit.

Actual waiting list or vehicle order ? They are not taking orders on them until after May .....maybe. I'd like to test drive the Hybrid version but none to test. I would n't order one for that reason alone. I guess I won't be retiring my truck any time soon.

it's an actual waitlist - my local dealer is also running one. I am going to speculate the 2023 run will be sold out pretty quickly.

Honestly a couple years from now seems ideal but the EV options that'll be out by then, and supply changes means I'm just not going to do anything for now haha.

Backup camera worked again this morning so I think I'll just keep this car  ;D

I'd be getting rid of it... my Grand Cherokee got 3 strikes & then "bye, bye!"

Seriously though, happy to hear it's healed itself like a proper German car does

Getting rid of it over something mechanical I get, but a trunk not opening? Annoying sure, but like it's a $700 fix worst case, seems like an overreaction... cheaper than a tune  ;D

I'm inclined to wait until I have the capacity to buy cash for the next vehicle; we'll see what happens though.

You don't remember my short fuse with the GC, and as Tortoise pointed out, I was just joking  :stick: :run:
