I got the aspherical factory mirrors for the Q5 from a US place. Make all the difference in traffic.
It was ECS Tuning.

Friends of mine just wrote off their 2012 Mazda 3 and I'm trying to convince them to get this exact car. Can lease for $360/mo taxes in in AB.

Next you should convince Sir O to abandon atlas dreams...

They can do better than that if they negotiate ;) Are you talking about a five year lease though?

It's a great car and I don't think there's a better value packaging for the Golf. I am curious to see if VW takes a bite out of Impreza sales with the 4motion golf wagon.

VW and Subaru people usually don't cross shop vehicles.

Lol. My friend bought a Golf wagon after his Outback was written off. He looked at another Subaru, but thought the Crosstrek was too small and the new Outback too big.

And that was before the AWD Golfs were available. With AWD, Golf wagon seems a natural Subaru competitor.

Four year and 12k a year. Their 2012 had < 50k on it.

At least there's no Atlas on that list  ;D

I'm sure there's a portion of buyers who (like my dad) who would only buy Japanese for quality. Though in the case of Subaru vs VW I wonder if there's in reality a whole lot of difference on the reliability front... FGC vs Headgasket etc issues.

I think the Impreza is a natural competitor to the Golf 4motion, and the Alltrack to the Outback - Price is similar (especially if you compare features), AWD. The sizes are a tad different with a progression of Impreza/Crosstrek -> Golf wagon/Alltrack -> Outback. The vehicles offer different advantages - Ground Clearance vs ease of mounting things on the roof.

The competition/cross-shopping is especially the case if you want a manual transmission vehicle; there are lots of options in AWD *UV if you don't care about rowing your own.

I see.  So Japanese owners only stick to Japanese makes.  Domestics only stick with domestics, and European only stick with the European brands.  I have a Kia van, but don't think I would buy a new Sedona...

the new Sedona is really nice (especially compared to something from 10 years ago)...but you have a Hyundai van, not a Kia van, no?

I have been in the new Sedona.  Odyssey is still king.  I have a Hyundai Entourage, which is the same as the Kia Sedona.  I am sure the Koreans have gotten better.  But I don't like the assumption, that a potential buyer would not cross shop between an Outback and a VW wagon, I know I would.

Coworker of mine traded in his Subaru BRZ for a Golf R late last fall.  His wife raded in her Subaru OBW for a Mini Clubman around the same time.

I went from 2007 Impreza to 2012 Civic SI to 2015 Jetta.

Sales guy at Subaru said to me "once you drive Subaru, you stay with Subaru..." I was like ahhh no. ::)

Small companies can't say that.  Their line up is too small.  No truck, no van, they just finally got a 3rd row SUV.

So I got to drive the wagon in a bit of snow (in all seasons.... I know, I know, winters will be mounted soon) and wow. I might very well be an AWD convert. It seems worth the fuel economy penalty at least. The car basically never slipped, and I was trying!

I probably wouldn't bother with putting winter tires on... Unless you have some big road trips planned.

I find even the FWD Golf is a good winter car. The ABS is really refined, the traction control does a great job of getting the power down (and will allow some slip) and the handling is very predictable.

The torque vectoring (by braking) system is great too, it just pulls the front end around when it should be plowing.

I just wish I could do ebrake turns without the stability control killing the fun.

Well, I finally got around to hooking up VCDS to my car and scanned it (2018 4MOTION, 6-sp manual), and the scan says it it has the CXBB engine. CXBB makes 199 lb-ft, and the CXBA 184. AFAIK the CXBA is only found in the 5-MT FWD GSW.

Cool that the 6spd gets the more powerful engine.

Neat. I think the manual has it written differently. Should check. Been tempted to get VCDS lately.

Bought these older wheels off kijiji (actually picked them up before I got the car), plasti dipped them black and mounted them today. I'm pretty happy with the result
