So, I'm now at just over 80 000 km. Car has had no FGC issues so far, maybe perks of being made in mexico?  ;D. Today I replaced the OEM hankook (POS) tires for the pirelli cinturato p7. Tires are MUCH quieter, can hear the engine a lot more.

My previous comments still stand. Only other observation is that I've never had to replace spark plugs so often on other cars. And the Haldex service costs a lot.

I don't know what else I'd replace the car with today if it flooded, which speaks volumes. While occasionally I think bout replacing the wagon with a Maverick or tacoma, I think the wagon still serves my needs beautifully. No real urge to replace it, I can keep it another decade or so then go for an f150 lightning  ;D

Still annoyed by the small washer fluid reservoir.

Nice update and happy the car has been good to you.

Why wait? I did mine at 75K and wish I did it earlier.

You are in NB now right?  There is an APR shop in Halifax, only a short drive away.

So what is this about spark plugs?  Have you had to replace them already?

I put the P7s on mine and agree, a great match for the GSW

You've been racking up the miles, we're only at 85k and we got ours a year earlier.

Yup, am keeping myself away from the APR shop... for now

Maintenance schedule says for golf wagon: Spark plugs: Replace Every 60,000km or 4 years. I drive a lot so I will be doing it a bit too often  ::)

I usually end up doing 30k/yr with the number of road trips I do.  This past year I don't think I did 20k  ;D

Apr tune, Is20, Is38 where to start that is the question. It is a slippery slope. I would get the tune though.

Mine is at 87000. No dealership visits. Did the haldex, DSG fluid change and all other maintenance myself.

That's crazy often for changing spark plugs on a modern vehicle.  I don't think my Golf R or my GLI have the same interval, but maybe I'm wrong, doesn't matter either way as I won't reach 60,000kms before getting something new anyway.

I wonder why it's that low?  I'd be surprised if it's because they use cheap plugs.

Direct Injection, perhaps?  Only thing I can think of...

Yeah but if that was the case wouldn't we be hearing about that a lot more from every manufacturer considering everything is direct injection nowadays.

Does everything use DI, though?  Hyundai/Kias also used to use DI (not any more, though), but their engines would usually blow up or catch on fire long before the first spark plug change interval...  :rofl2:

Pretty much every manufacturer makes DI engines now.  It's pretty much the only way to get the efficiency and performance out of ICE nowadays.

^^^ There is only efficiency and performance though until The DI carbons the engine up. I guess it's okay if you flip cars every couple of years. ;D

Oh I agree, but manufacturer really only care about the specs when new, so that's fuel economy and power figures.  Once it's sold and carbon build up is a maintenance issue they no longer care.

So I contacted the nearest dealer... Apparently $700+tax for the tune. Honestly insanely tempting.

Might wait until November for APR's black friday sale.

is that APR what stage? isn't there 3 stage.  i think only stage 1 is doable without hardware switch

I’d definitely stick to stage one. Not even sure I’ll do the 91 octane tune

yup...while Hyundai/Kia was doing everything DI for a few years, most of their lower priced cars dropped DI and use port injection and the new 2.5 and 3.5 corporate engines are dual injection.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

I'd tell you to stick to the stage one and I'd opt for the 91 octane.  You are in Fredericton right, just go to Costco gas bar like me and get premium, it's not much more.
