That's the way I would go.  FWIW, the handling is still decent with the 15" Blizzaks.

Or if you can find a set with winters and run them for a season or two before replacing.

Because of so many cars being returned to VW  there are lots of tire and wheel options on Kijiji.

I could get "nicer" wheels but downsizing winters saves like $40 a tire. It's quite the jump in price from 15s to 16s

Blizzak WS80 are only $30 difference between 15s and 16s.  So your saving $120.  On winter tires that will last about 4 years.  I had 17s in the winter, 18s in the summer.

So the price difference for WS80s is $25/tire, but for the Michelin X-Ice it's $70/tire!! So it really depends on a lot of configuration.

Currently I see a couple 15inch golf alloys on kijiji so that may be the way I go.

I bough my 15" metals rims on kijiji with almost new winter tires on them.  I paid 400$ at the time.  should be lots for sale on kijiji

I follow /r/justrolledintotheshop on Reddit. There are a lot of broken aluminum rims that show up. Low profile tires and rough/slippery roads or road debris are a bad combo.

The 2018 Trendline has 16" Dover wheels.

??? Looks like an older VW wheel design.

I bought take-off 15" alloys from a Golf Trendline not long after buying my TDI. That's a great-looking alloy wheel, and 195/65R15 tires are cheaper & sturdier for winter duty. My Blizzaks were around 100$ each at Costco.

Those look great, especially for winters.

You guys now have me looking at alternate summer wheels... ugh.

I guess I hadn't paid attention to the wheels, because I do prefer the last year trendline wheels... There is a set of Atlanta wheels on sale for $400. Might pick it up and sell the dovers that came with my car. I also have to sell the OEM Fit alloys.

Don't bother about what others says about your wheels.  Just do what you're comfortable with.  I think the Dover wheels look fine and probably will do a better job at keeping snow out of the wheels.

I'm not bothered, moreso inspired  ;D

The wheels I'm looking at for winter are not the Dover. Dover is the stock wheel. I now am really digging the idea of black wheels. Might plastidip for now. We'll see. No rush.

I'd stick with the oem wheels for summer, they're fine, and look for another oem wheel in 15" for winter. Not a fan of black wheels, to each is own.

If VW offered a 6-year bumper-to-bumper warranty in Canada, I'd replace my Mazda3 with a Sportwagen the second I had a single repair cost to the Mazda.

You could always negotiate a deal on a 2 year extended warranty.

Or is it the principle?

The warranty on 2015 and newer Mazdas is decent, 5 year bumper to bumper unlimited mileage, in Canada or US.

Not that I would buy a car based on the warranty, doesn't even factor into my decision.

What if it had no warranty?  :P

no it isn't...it's 3 years bumper to bumper, unlimited mileage (the 5 years is powertrain only, which is pretty common with everyone else out there now)...it simply replaced the 3 year/60,000 kms warranty (and most people likely don't exceed the 60,000 kms anyway, so it didn't really cost them anything to offer the unlimited mileage.

Mazda vehicles are designed to be driven, and to prove it, we’ve introduced Mazda Unlimited – the only warranty program of its kind in Canada.

Mazda Unlimited features unlimited mileage for our 3-YEAR New Vehicle, 3-YEAR Roadside Assistance, 5-YEAR Powertrain and 7-YEAR Anti-Perforation warranties, so you can focus on every thrilling moment spent behind the wheel instead of the odometer.

Standard on all new models.

I have a couple OEM options. One 15 inch and another which is 16inch. I like the look of the 16s way more but not sure theyre a better bet since theyre mounted with hankook optimo rather than true winter

I've always found car and driver 0-60 time optimistic but one can hope ;D

I watched another video where the guy did 0-60 in similar golf wagon manual in 8.11... admittedly his stickshift skills didn't seem that good.

I read on VWVortex that the 0-60 time came from a 6400 rpm clutch dump.

As for winters, I'd be inclined to just run the summers and sort them out in the fall.

Specifically VW... Lack of trust, concern re "FGC", and experience losing O2 sensors in Japanese cars (knowing full well that VWs are notorious for blowing through sensors).  A 6 year warranty from the manufacturer that I wouldn't have to fight for?  Count me in.

After my experience with the Corolla's ECP, I'm never doing an ECP again.  Definitely saved lots of money, but fight every step of the way by the dealership. No thanks. No more.
