Great choice.  It really ticks all the boxes for your needs AND it should be good even if you decide to get hitched and have kids.

For me, I'd want the CL trim for the keyless access and push-button start and fake-leather seats (easier to clean).  I don't really care for the panoramic sunroof, though.

Keyless access and push button start (not the type you have to insert the remote into a slot) is really missed when you no longer have it after living with it for a few years.

Really?  I have 1 car with it, and 1 without.  Don't really give it much thought.  Since I have my keys out to lock the front door, press the button on the keyfob, turn the key in the ignition.  In the other car, I still have the keys handy, as I don't like things in my pocket.  So they take up a cup holder with my phone.

You don't always go from home->car though.  Plus, I had the feature when I lived in a condo; so the keys were already in my pocket or work bag by the time I got to the car in the garage.

I found the keyless entry/push button ignition the most handy in the winter time.  Have gloves on when you leave the house and don't have to fiddle around with the keys ever.  Also helpful if you have groceries/beer/cat/baby etc. in one arm.  ;D

I've never had keyless access and I mostly see the appeal. What happens when you go swimming on the beach though? I have that problem with most modern cars - they don't offer you a key-only option! Same thing with the golf.

Well I'm not 23 anymore but waayy  closer to that than 30  ;D. Maybe I should say the only one born post 1990 with a station wagon?

In any case I'm pumped. Dark blue six speed manual golf sportwagen 4motion. Trendline not comfortline (sorry wongpong). VW finally includes auto headlights in the base model. Has carplay too. What else could I need?

Test drove my future car today in the snow. I'm very excited. Now to wait for the bureaucracy.

Congrats for your new wheels. I previously owned for 5 years a 1988 Jetta TDI manual bought new. A friend of mine had a Golf Wagon, I had a soft spot (and being a bit jealous) of its cavernous trunk for such  little car but for me now, I won't buy any car in the future without a plug and I'm not talking about the glow plugs  ;D. Enjoy your new acquisition.

I used to say that too and then I test drove electric cars and I completely changed my mind. So far tested the electric Focus, plug in CMax, Hyundai Ioniq and the Volt. By far the Volt was the one me and my wife liked so much that in the spring she might buy one. I am holding on to test drive the new Leaf.
Take one for a quick spin and let us know if you changed your mind.

Driven the Volt, quite like it.  Doesn't fit my needs, or budget.

If I can get a plugin used GMC Sierra crew cab that can tow 7000lbs that gives me a cruising range of 500km, for $25k than I would seriously consider that. Doubt that will happen within the next 10 years.

I almost bought something with a plug time around, namely the Honda clarity.

The issue for me was I don’t drive in the city enough to justify the extra cost and complexity, even after rebate, of a PHEV.

And I drive too much to go full ev. Two cars are not an option because I live downtown and the cost would be ridiculous.

But I can see myself getting a car with a plug next time around

Congrats on the new ride!  Awesome you could get AWD AND a manual!  I'd hope/bet it'll be a hoot.    Now...just put some winter tires on those not so pretty factory rims, and get some nicer summer wheels (there's no options for wheels on a VW? Not like anyone else does either...but I thought you used to be able to at least get nicer wheels or there was a wheel/tire pkg).

What do you mean other manufactures don't offer wheel packages?

I could get "nicer" wheels but downsizing winters saves like $40 a tire. It's quite the jump in price from 15s to 16s

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach the man to fish and he wakes you up at 5 in the morning.

Blizzak WS80 are only $30 difference between 15s and 16s.  So your saving $120.  On winter tires that will last about 4 years.  I had 17s in the winter, 18s in the summer.

Given the same outside diameter, I find it strange that a smaller rim tire is cheaper, since it takes more rubber to make it

All MkVII Golfs come with alloy wheels. Pi's Sportwagen Trendline comes with the 16" Toronto alloys from the Comfortline hatchback, the very wheels I kept as "souvenirs" from my TDI and now used as winter alloys on the e-tron. And they are not bad looking wheels IMHO.

The 2018 Trendline has 16" Dover wheels.

So the price difference for WS80s is $25/tire, but for the Michelin X-Ice it's $70/tire!! So it really depends on a lot of configuration.

Currently I see a couple 15inch golf alloys on kijiji so that may be the way I go.
