Drove a 2017 A4 stripper rental and had to move the seat up.

No, 2018.

It's not like the 2019 will be appreciably different in the snow...

Why wouldn't it be? Different, newer hybrid system with more power/ TQ going to the rear axle.

Ok...it's not like it's going to be worse or a step back IMO.

I'm really interested in the new Rav4 hybrid.  Its basically getting commuter car fuel economy and dosen't have a huge bump in price over gas versions($1400).  It really does seem like a zero compromise jump to a hybrid model or even more beneficial with the bump in power. I know it's not an exciting vehicle but we need a commuter car to pile on km's.
I'm I missing something here? Would gas versions cost less to service? Why would anyone chose gas over the hybrid in LE or XLE trims??

No reason almost. Brake pads (and rotors I imagine) last three times longer in hybrids for one.

i'm in the same boat as you...assuming it has comfortable seats, etc, there's really no reason you wouldn't buy if for those needs.

In terns of long term value, a base Hybrid is the winner, hands down. Fuel cost savings will be fairly substantial thanks to the superb fuel economy. RAVs hold their value very well, but the higher trims aren't priced relative to their initial premium in the used market, so the base Hybrid will retain the most value percentage wise. It's not a stripper model that would be tough to sell, even the base Hybrid is very well equipped.

That's the sensible approach to a new RAV. I think if I was buying one I'd either get the gas "off road" model or a fairly top trim Hybrid. With it being a long term keeper, get the options you want upfront and enjoy them over the long haul.

I think we would also get the XLE hybrid.  My wife would want the moonroof and heated steering wheel and I'd want the leather wrapped steering wheel.  Smart key access and power lift gate are also nice to have.

Rav4 hybrid would be a downgrade for me in terms of comfort, power and some other things but it is a lot more practical, fuel efficient, has better ground clearance, better traction in winter, it is easier to park in a small garage and on the street. I would have to get a Limited trim for its front ventilated seats and half-decent stereo with a subwoofer. Maybe grey interior for a change.

I think an LE hybrid would be lots for us, we like cloth, don't use a sunroof and I've never understand why a power liftgate is even a thing.

Heated wheel would have been nice but heated seats are the main thing and they are standard.

Got an Uber yesterday which turned out to be a 10 year old MDX and the guy was saying a hybrid Rav4 is probably what he'll replace it with. 15l/100km of premium fuel in the city is wearing thin

In some cars, the G80 for example, not only the trunk lid is powered but there is no need to wave anything, just stand in front of the trunk and it opens after 2 seconds. It's great for when you carry stuff in both hands.
I think in case of Rav there is still a button to push.
